00:00That beige car came up behind the demonstrators, plowing into the crowd,
00:05some people saying at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour, 28 people injured,
00:10some said to be in critical condition at hospitals around the scene, other people
00:15scattered into the surrounding buildings here, so it could be that that number of
00:20injured rises as those people seek medical attention. What we know about the
00:25assailant is that he's a 24 year old Afghan who had his asylum claim here in
00:29Germany denied. He was though on a temporary visa here in the country and
00:35was said to be known to police for petty crimes such as drugs and shoplifting. The
00:40case has been turned over to the Department of Extremism and Terrorism at
00:44the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office. Police did indicate that there was
00:49some suspicion of an extremist background in the suspect. Local media
00:54also says that the suspect was believed to have published Islamist posts just
00:58prior to the attack here in Munich. German Chancellor Olaf Schultz, leader
01:03of the SPD party, says the situation is just awful and the suspect must be
01:08punished and deported. The far-right Alternative for Deutschland, the leader
01:12of that party, tweeted very shortly after this incident saying immigration is an
01:17issue that has to be addressed right now.
