00:00Clearly, Tom Hanks' multi-Oscar award-winning film of 1994 has made a huge dent on this Japanese adventurer
00:08who walked 6,000 kilometers to South Africa pulling a rickshaw.
00:12VOA's red carpet shines the light on this latest feat of endurance by Gump Suzuki in this VOA feature report.
00:19Japanese adventurer Gump Suzuki arrived in Cape Town at the end of a more than 6,000 kilometers journey across Africa while pulling a rickshaw.
00:39Suzuki began his African odyssey last summer in Kenya and has a large following on social media
00:45where he has shared regular updates of his adventures.
00:5134-year-old Japanese Yuji Gump Suzuki arrived in Cape Town to end a more than 6,000 kilometer journey from Kenya to South Africa on foot while pulling a rickshaw.
01:02Suzuki said it was a very good experience despite some hairy moments like seeing a lion and a truck hitting his rickshaw.
01:09I saw the lion on the road. We just came back to the village.
01:14We were running together with any children in Tanzania.
01:19I broke my rickshaw by hitting a truck two times, but I'm still alive.
01:26When I was crossing Namibia, there was nothing everywhere.
01:31That's why it's very difficult to get water, to get food.
01:34I sleep outside every time. That's a very good experience for me.
01:39Suzuki was emotional as he thanked his supporters for their backing during his latest quest,
01:44which started in the Kenyan capital in July and took him through Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, and Namibia.
01:50Running for fun. I've been traveling for nine years already.
01:54I get the power from you guys. That's why I'm going to give you guys power too.
01:58That's my life.
01:59I just want to say many thanks to you guys. I couldn't make it without you guys.
02:04That's why I'm really happy to see you guys running together until the finish line.
02:10I just want to say thank you. Thank you so much.
02:20I've been following Suzuki from Namibia.
02:24I caught up with him when a guy stopped offering him water just as he got out of Namibia,
02:29and I've been following him all the way.
02:31It's just amazing to see how the people in South Africa have just come out.
02:39Among his other journeys, Suzuki has already pulled his two-wheel cart from China to India for 2,500 kilometers
02:46and 5,100 kilometers across the United States, according to his website.
02:51Suzuki wears a version of Japan's traditional tabi socks while on his journeys,
02:55which he posts about on social media.
