00:00The Department of Tourism launched the Regional Historical Trails in La Union to preserve the culture and promote sustainable tourism in the province.
00:09Kathleen Ramones is the PIA of La Union in Balitang, Pambansang.
00:15Officially, the Department of Tourism Region 1 launched the Regional Historical Trails in coordination with local governments,
00:22academia, cultural leaders, and other sectors of the society from February 5 to 6, 2025 in the province of La Union.
00:31Through this initiative, the Department of Tourism pays attention to the important historical sites in La Union,
00:37not only to preserve them, but also to make the next generations understand the importance of their heritage.
00:46One of the locations is the Ago'o Basilica, or better known as the Basilica of Our Lady of Charity,
00:52which was built during the time of the conquest of the Spaniards.
00:56Meanwhile, Darigayos Cove is also located, where you can find the Yusuf Ibn El Shrine,
01:01which was used by the Second World War as a landing site for the Philippine and American forces
01:07before they were able to win the Battle of Besang Pas.
01:11Another historical structure is the Baluarte Watchtower,
01:14a coastal defense structure that was built during the time of the Spaniards.
01:19It was used to guard the townships of La Union against pirates and thieves.
01:25Let us not forget the history that shaped our culture and identity.
