00:00Let's look back on the history and origin of curling. Here's the report from Jamaica, Bayaka

00:07Philippines is one of the countries not associated with winter sports because of its tropical climate

00:13But despite this Filipinos are excelling in different international winter competitions like curling

00:20But how did this sports find its way into the hearts of Filipinos nowadays?

00:25Very good because it's a big challenge for Filipinos especially in the winter Olympics or Winter Games

00:32Because we don't have that kind of weather

00:37So it's a very big challenge, so congratulations

00:41Very proud because Filipinos are showing that they are excellent in different sports

00:49Especially in games like this, we're not used to it because we haven't experienced that kind of environment

00:57I was amazed because there's no snow in the Philippines

01:03Back in the 16th century curling was considered as one of the oldest team sports in the world

01:09The sport started becoming popular in the 18th century and was highly celebrated in the lowlands of Scotland

01:16In 1924, curling became an Olympic sports and was showcased in the Olympic Winter Games

01:22In the Philippines, curling started in the year 2000s

01:25The Philippine Curling Association was founded in 2006 and played an important role to introduce the sport in a tropical country

01:34In the 9th Asian Winter Games, the Philippine Curling Team clinched its first ever gold medal and marked a historical win

01:42This victory only shows that we can conquer powerhouse countries like China and Korea

01:47But what's next for the Philippines after this historical win?

01:51The awareness about curling is increasing

01:54We will be organizing a learn to curl camp for Filipinos who are based in the Philippines and in Asia

02:00Curling Pilipinas will fund the ice time, will fund the coaches and the translators

02:07The Philippines has proven that climate is no barrier to excelling in winter sports like curling
