00:09Iraq's forces resumed their advance on the Daesh bastion of Mosul today, aiming to position
00:15themselves a few hundred meters from the Iraqi city's eastern limits. A senior officer with
00:20the elite counter-terrorism service said only two villages remained on the road to Mosul.
00:26The massive offensive to retake Mosul began exactly two weeks ago.
00:31Lebanon's parliament is poised to elect former General Michel Aoun as president today after
00:36a dramatic shift of alliances ended two years of political stalemate. A majority of parliamentarians
00:42from across Lebanon's deeply divided political scene are set to vote for the 81-year-old
00:47Christian leader.
00:49Eight suspected terrorists of the banned Students' Islamic Movement of India, who escaped from
00:55a jail in the central Indian city of Bhopal, have been killed in a gunfight. Police said
01:00today all eight were killed in crossfire on the outskirts of the city.
01:05Hillary Clinton enters the final full week of the presidential race on the defence once
01:10again over her use of a private email system. But she vowed over the weekend that she would
01:16not be knocked off course in the election's final days.
01:20Meanwhile, a newly emboldened Donald Trump is seizing on the discovery of the trove of
01:24new emails that may be pertinent to the FBI's investigation.
01:30Singer Bruno Mars and producer Mark Ronson have been sued by funk group Collage, who
01:35alleged that the global hit Uptown Funk has been ripped off the band's 1983 single Young
01:41Girls.
01:42Mars and Ronson admitted in interviews to being inspired by the 80s Minneapolis and
01:47electro-funk scenes that Collage belonged to. Collage are seeking unspecified damages
01:52and profits.
01:54And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 33 degrees Celsius, dropping
01:59to 26 degrees at night.
