00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News Update for Monday, June 13. Here are the top stories
00:07at this hour.
00:08U.S. President Barack Obama, Pope Francis, and Queen Elizabeth led global condemnation
00:14after a gunman went on the rampage at a U.S. nightclub, leaving at least 50 people dead.
00:19The attack at a packed nightclub in Orlando, Florida, is the worst mass shooting in U.S.
00:23history. Authorities identified the alleged attacker as 29-year-old Omar Mateen, a U.S.
00:29citizen of Afghan descent. The largest UAE manufacturer of building cladding panels
00:35said it will no longer produce flammable plastic core cladding. The announcement from Al-Aban's
00:41parent company owner Shazi Al-Mulk came ahead of the public release of a revised UAE Fire
00:46and Life Safety Code. Al-Mulk told Gulf News his firm was voluntarily halting production
00:52of the controversial products amid a rash of spectacular tower fires in recent years.
00:57A bomb exploded outside the headquarters of Lebanese Blom Bank in central Beirut on
01:02Sunday, causing damage but no fatalities. There was no immediate claim of responsibility,
01:07but the banking sector has been at the center of an escalating crisis since a U.S. crackdown
01:12targeting the finances of Hezbollah.
01:15Despite Dubai's developers spreading out their new off-plan launches, work on their
01:19ongoing projects will ensure the residential market is oversupplied until 2019. A new report
01:26from FIDR Advisory said that new and future projects could add a further 120,000 units
01:31to the existing supply, cooling off demand substantially.
01:35Bastian Schweinsteiger, scored as world champions Germany, started their European Championship
01:40campaign with a 2-0 win over Ukraine on Sunday night. The 31-year-old Manchester United midfielder
01:46came on in the 19th minute and quickly put away a perfect pass from Zout Ozil for the
01:51deciding goal.
01:52Hamilton, the hip-hop stage biography of Alexander Hamilton, won 11 Tony Awards, including for
01:58Best New Musical. Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical biography about the first U.S. Treasury Secretary
02:05was still just short of breaking the 12-Tony record held by the producers.
02:09And finally, weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 42 degrees Celsius, dropping
02:14to 29 degrees at night.
