00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News Update for Tuesday, March the 8th. Here are the top
00:06stories at this hour.
00:09European Union leaders hailed a breakthrough in talks with Turkey on a deal to curb the
00:13refugee crisis, but delayed a decision until a summit next week to flesh out the details
00:19of Ankara's new demands.
00:21Turkish Prime Minister Ahmeto Davutoglu stunned his 28 EU counterparts in Brussels when he
00:27asked for an extra 3 billion euros in aid and visa-free travel for Turks to the bloc
00:34by June. In return, he proposed to take back all illegal refugees landing on the overstretched
00:39Greek islands. He suggested a one-for-one deal under which the EU would resettle one
00:45Syrian refugee from camps in Turkey in exchange for every Syrian that Turkey takes from Greece.
00:53Apple Inc. customers were targeted by hackers over the weekend in the first campaign against
00:58Macintosh computers using a pernicious type of software known as ransomware, one of the
01:03fastest-growing types of cyber-threats. Ransomware encrypts data on infected machines, then asks
01:10users to pay ransoms in hard-to-trace digital currencies to get an electronic key so they
01:16can retrieve their data.
01:18Maria Sharapova's tennis career and Olympic hopes are in jeopardy. She claims it is all
01:23because she failed to click on a link in an email that would have told her to stop taking
01:28meldonium, which became a banned substance this year.
01:33Bob Dylan announced a new album and tour as the legend showed little interest in slowing
01:38down at nearly 75. Dylan said that his 37th studio album, Fallen Angels, would come out
01:44on May 20, four days before his birthday.
01:49And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 28 degrees Celsius, dropping
01:53to 19 degrees at night.
01:55That's all for now. Thanks for watching. But as always, you can get the latest news
