00:00The RTA has announced that as of April 1, 2015, it will be activating the Al-Masr violation
00:13for the misuse of the bus and taxi-only lanes on Al-Naif Road in Daraa.
00:17So Al-Masr is a new smart system that is used for the dedicated bus lanes and taxi lanes.
00:26We just started here on Al-Naif Road, so there is a dedicated bus and taxi lane of 1.7 kilometers
00:35and we've installed seven cameras in this lane.
00:41The system can detect the black-listed cars.
00:45The white-listed cars are the public buses, our public buses, the taxis, emergency vehicles
00:50such as police cars, civil defense cars and ambulances.
00:56Now this dedicated lane, of course, it has entrances for the parkings, for different roads.
01:02So people, they have a chance to use a dedicated lane for like a distance of 20 meters in each entrance.
01:12You have to have a whole integrated system, rules, regulations, policies that support
01:19encouraging people using public transport in the city.
01:22One of the initiatives is having the dedicated lanes for the buses to encourage people to
01:28use public transport and also to reduce the traffic jams, CO2 emissions.
01:36All these goals are related to this project.
01:42The number of vehicles using the bus and taxi-only lane has dropped by 63% during the experimental
01:47phase of the Al-Masr project, and when the system goes live motorists will receive a
01:51hefty $600 fine for violating this new traffic rule.
