00:00For everything that's going on right now around the world or with just our personal problems,
00:06it's good to go in the cinemas and forget about your problems.
00:09I think that's also the magic of going to the cinemas and the movie house.
00:13It's just going in and forgetting about everything and being in that moment
00:16and joining everyone when everyone laughs. You share something in common.
00:22Good afternoon, this is Manjusha and I am the entertainment editor for Gulf News in Dubai.
00:33We are headquartered in the UAE and I have to tell you there is a huge,
00:38huge sizable Filipino population who watch every move of yours.
00:44You guys are the beloved, I have to say, stars and we're very excited that you're going to light up
00:49Eid. So you can tell us, you're spreading love, aren't you, with your new movie, When Love Disappears?
00:56First of all, we want to say thank you for having us here.
01:00And we want to say hi to everyone who's watching this right now.
01:04And to all the Filipinos,
01:09and we're very excited for this movie to be shown in UAE,
01:14most especially that there's a lot of Filipinos there.
01:18And we're excited to bring the Kilig and the Filipino culture in UAE.
01:28Hopefully, non-Filipinos will also watch this film.
01:31That's fun. I'm quite intrigued.
01:32Paolo, you can tell me, you're spreading love this Eid in the UAE cinemas.
01:38To all my fellow Filipinos in UAE, Dubai and everywhere near,
01:44first of all, we want to thank you so much.
01:45We heard there are a lot of blocked screenings.
01:48People have pre-purchased tickets for our movie.
01:51And this is, I would say, a gift to our fellow Filipinos abroad.
01:59Rarely does a Filipino film get to be released in several territories all around the world.
02:04And we're very blessed.
02:06And like what Kim said, this movie is not just about me or Kim or a love story.
02:14It's also about the Filipino culture and how we are as Filipinos.
02:18So I'm pretty sure our moviegoers are going to be excited to watch the film.
02:22So explain it to me.
02:24Is there such a belief among men and women that you are cursed?
02:29Is that because in India, where I come from, where I watch Bollywood movies,
02:32trust me when we say we are superstitious about love.
02:35We don't talk about our marriage until it happens.
02:38We have a black dot so that people don't cast an evil eye on love.
02:44Explain to me, is that a thing?
02:46And what should I know about it?
02:51Yes, it is a thing.
02:52Filipinos are very superstitious.
02:54Maybe in some ways close to the Indian superstitions.
03:00But our superstitions come from Filipino folklore, when the Spaniards came here,
03:13the Japanese, the Chinese culture as well.
03:16So it's a mix of all these superstitions.
03:18So it's like everything you do, there's a superstition for it.
03:22Lovely.
03:23It's global.
03:24We've got global influence.
03:25We go global when it comes to superstition.
03:27Kimberly, do you really believe in it?
03:30To be cursed in love, is that a real problem?
03:35My character here named Sari, she believes that she's been cursed.
03:40That all the men that she will love or kiss will disappear.
03:45Just like what we believe in real life, that are we really cursed?
03:49Because all the men we love are all gone.
03:52Or most of the Filipinos here has a lot of beliefs.
03:59And we don't know if we're really cursed.
04:06I get that.
04:07But Sari believes that she's really cursed.
04:11Because even the person that she loves the most disappeared.
04:16And that's her mom.
04:18Oh, I get that.
04:20You know, I was just reading the plot to a colleague of mine.
04:24And she goes, we call it Tinder.
04:26Most men ghost us.
04:28Most men go zombie on us and come back alive after a few.
04:32Is that true?
04:33In this age of Tinder and dating, finding love on modern dating apps is so difficult.
04:39How does this movie resonate?
04:43I don't do Tinder.
04:46Good to know.
04:46I don't think you should.
04:48Nobody should.
04:52But in this day and age, falling in love with the right person is hard.
04:57And giving your trust to that person is also hard.
05:01But when it comes to love, love is universal.
05:05And love has to be felt.
05:07Pain has to be felt also.
05:10But being ghosted has to be cursed.
05:13Just kidding.
05:15I love it.
05:16I'm just joking.
05:16Look at my t-shirt.
05:18Ghosts should be cursed, indeed.
05:21Of course.
05:22And for us, we are in this era of modern dating where everything is a minefield.
05:28You are ghosted, zombied.
05:29Men and women play games, mind games.
05:32How does this movie resonate?
05:36I think we do have Tinder and Bumble and all these other apps in the Philippines.
05:43But I think the big majority of Filipinos don't really use this app.
05:48We're very conservative.
05:53I would say conservative, yes.
05:54But also, we like our traditions.
06:02We call it ligaw, or when a guy courts a woman until he finds some qualities he likes.
06:10And this is the typical stuff.
06:14But in terms of ghosting, it happens to, I'm pretty sure, everyone.
06:20Also, in one way or another, we have been ghosted by maybe loved ones in the past.
06:33I think it's universal.
06:34It's very universal and everyone can relate to it.
06:39Yeah, I love that.
06:40And I also love the fact that this movie taps into every individual's need to be loved,
06:45like to find the soulmate.
06:46It can be friendship even.
06:48But in this case, it's necessarily love.
06:50It's also that, right?
06:52Do you think that's what, at the end of the day, people want to see?
06:55They want to have a fairytale ending.
06:58They want to see happy things.
07:00Now, we're in that.
07:01After COVID, etc., we want happy things on the big screen.
07:04Perhaps this movie taps into that sentiment.
07:09Yes, it kind of does.
07:12But also tackling a lot of issues along the way.
07:15But you're right, Manjusha.
07:19Everyone wants a fairytale ending.
07:22Also, because of everything that's happening around the world,
07:25like here alone in the Philippines, there's so much happening everywhere.
07:34I think that's also the magic of going to the cinemas and the movie house.
07:38It's just going in and forgetting about everything and being in that moment
07:41and joining everyone when everyone laughs.
07:46You share something in common that only happens inside the four walls.
07:55How about you?
07:56Do you think we are really dying for a good romantic film for the festive season ahead?
08:04Of course, for everything that's going on right now around the world
08:08or with just our personal problems,
08:11it's good to go in the cinemas and forget about your problem for two hours
08:15and just share.
08:17It's like a community experience.
08:20It's like going inside a room together
08:24and you experience the same emotions together at once.
08:27Even if you don't know that person,
08:29when that person at your back laughs, you also laugh.
08:33Or that certain person cries, you also cry.
08:36It's a great experience for you to go inside the movie house
08:40and share that experience with your friends, family, or just you by yourself.
08:45Just forgetting about your problems.
08:47Excellent.
08:48And romantic comedies are a tricky genre.
08:51I love a good romantic comedy.
08:53For me, even Gone Girl.
08:54I don't know if you have seen David Fincher's Gone Girl.
08:56I love Gone Girl.
08:58I love that.
08:58Is it a romantic comedy?
09:00It's not a romantic comedy.
09:02There is romance there somewhere.
09:04They do everything macabre and horrid to each other, but they're still together.
09:09So, I know it's a weird romantic thriller.
09:11I wouldn't call it a comedy, but a thriller nonetheless.
09:15I mean, what is your idea of a perfect romance?
09:18I know you both are like the Brangelina of the Philippines is what I was told.
09:23So, there you go.
09:25Let me hear it from you.
09:26What are the kinds of romantic comedies that you root to?
09:30Kimberly, if you don't like it, and Paula, if you don't like romance,
09:33please say it openly.
09:34It's okay.
09:35It's okay if you don't like romantic comedies in real life.
09:40For me, I love romantic comedy.
09:42I love romance and mix it with comedy because I just want to feel happy and be loved, right?
09:51When you're watching a romantic comedy movie, you feel good right away.
09:55You forget about everything that's going on.
09:58It's just a feel-good type of movie that you can watch again and again if you really like it.
10:06Right.
10:07And it reminds you of how it feels right to love again or to feel love, right?
10:17Because love is a universal language.
10:20There's no language that has to be told.
10:25It's just straight emotions.
10:28Excellent.
10:29And Paula, tell me the truth.
10:31Do you really die hard more than anything else?
10:34Tell the truth.
10:36Me, I'm not so much into romantic comedies.
10:39I knew that.
10:40I knew that.
10:41But I do watch one every now and then.
10:44I grew up watching romantic comedies as well because of my family.
10:48You know, it's like a family thing.
10:50If someone watches one thing on the screen, everyone has to watch it.
10:53But yeah, I enjoy it.
10:58But if given the choice between interstellar or romantic comedy, I would choose interstellar.
11:06You're not judging.
11:07This is a no judgment phase.
11:08Between Box Office Glory and let's say Critical Acclaim, I know you guys have found immense
11:15success in TV space.
11:16What would you gravitate to?
11:18Do you guys want the Critical Acclaim or just the Box Office Glory?
11:22Because it's the first time you guys are uniting on the big screen together.
11:26What would you, for this movie, what are you hoping for?
11:29Do you want the reviews?
11:30Do you want both?
11:31What would you like?
11:33Personally, I would want this to be a Box Office hit.
11:35I know it's, but who knows, we could have both, but it's for the people to judge and
11:43for other people to judge.
11:45But in a perfect world, it would be nice to have both.
11:47But I would prefer it to be a Box Office hit first before anything else.
11:53Just so we could all, we could, we could continue to produce movies like this and bring it around
11:58the world, like show our Filipino culture around the world.
12:03Excellent.
12:03And Kimberly, what about you?
12:05For me, if you ask me, I want both.
12:08I want both, best of both worlds to be Critically Acclaimed, that a movie is very good and it's
12:17going to be a Box Office hit because this is also very rare for a Filipino movie to
12:25be shown all around the world.
12:28And as of now, we have 500 cinemas worldwide that is showing.
12:34So we're very blessed and we're very thankful and we're praying for the success of this
12:40movie.
12:41Excellent.
12:41You know, there are these movies that peddle the stereotype that there's always the one,
12:46you know, and many filmmakers, many industries around the world are trying to change that
12:51narrative, saying that the concept of the one should, there is no the one, it could
12:56be the right one, you know, or right now, not a soulmate.
13:01Do you guys believe in that, that we should move away from the narrative that woman finding
13:05love or a man finding love is the end all of everything?
13:09And you go in this constant pursuit and movies have done that, isn't it?
13:12What is your take?
13:13Should movies move away from that narrative?
13:15What is your take?
13:16Should movies move away from that narrative?
13:20Movies like a romance movie, like our movie, it's just telling people to not be afraid
13:27to fall in love, not be afraid to look for love, because love is always there.
13:32If it finds you, it will choose you.
13:34And that person could be, you're the one or your soulmate.
13:39For me, yes, for me, I would never like to put a period on it because, you know, it's
13:48always nice to like have an idea, like there's this perfect one for you and you'll never
13:53know.
13:53Some people find it, some people don't.
13:56But my personal take on it is, you know, as long as I just find someone to grow old
14:02with, and I'm fine with that.
14:05I love that.
14:06Oh, wow.
14:07You have high standards, grow old with you.
14:10You've already gone the whole term.
14:13I love that.
14:13In terms of chemistry, romantic comedy is as good as both your chemistry.
14:18We have already seen that.
14:19You guys have established yourself as that.
14:21But when it comes to this movie, did you guys have workshops or anything just to have that
14:26kind of like, it should be good writing and chemistry, right?
14:29Both of you should, how did you guys work at it?
14:32How do you bring something new to the table?
14:37Um, for me and Paolo, we've worked for several projects now, and both projects had a very
14:46different tone.
14:47And this one, this is different.
14:49This is more light, more on romance, more on like we tackle into reality of love.
14:58So, I think regarding the chemistry, thanks to our directors and to our writers for giving
15:06us a space for us to show our talent.
15:11Excellent.
15:11And Paolo, what about you?
15:15You just have natural chemistry with everybody?
15:17No, no, no.
15:19Natural?
15:20It's his eyes.
15:22No, it's, I would say it's, it's kind of the same with chemistry.
15:29But just to make it different, just so we have different answers.
15:32I think it's how Kim looks at me.
15:36Yeah, it's, you don't know if it's, it's love or if it's just for cinema, how she looks
15:44at me.
15:45It's just, I think it's what hooks the audience.
15:49I'm kidding.
15:51I love it.
15:51I love it.
15:52Somewhere I feel you guys are like totally into it.
15:55I think you guys are going to sell the movie just through your chemistry alone.
15:59People are like, let's see how far they go in this one.
16:03I'm very curious to know how deep you guys look into each other's eyes.
16:06What happens next?
16:08In the movie, they're going to see it.
16:12Dan, thank you so much for your time.
16:13I think this is going to be, I mean, nothing like a great romance, right?
16:17At the end of the day, I think we are all, for a lack of a better word, sucker for romances.
16:21We want the happy ending and the fairytale ending.
16:25That's true.
16:27Everyone wants to be loved and feel loved.
16:30Great.
16:30And one great movie at a time here is Hoping People Believe.
16:33Thank you guys for entertaining every Filipino out there.
16:37We'll put the word out there.
16:38Is there anything you want to add?
16:40Our time's up.
16:41Go for it.
16:42We would be happy to.
16:43There's so many Filipinos here whose families are back home and for them and I see so many
16:49of my friends calling their husbands home.
16:51I'm like, it's long distance, it's very painful.
16:53Not easy.
16:54Yeah, they're keeping a marriage in place.
16:57Can I start, Kim?
17:00Yes.
17:02Is it okay if I speak in Tagalog as well?
17:04Please do.
17:06Well, hello to all our kabayans, all our kapamilyas in the UAE and in Dubai.
17:13First of all, we want to thank you for the pre-purchases of tickets.
17:16I've heard we've filled several block screenings, several cinemas.
17:20Maraming maraming salamat po.
17:22I'm sure a lot of you, a lot of our fellow Filipinos there miss home, which is the Philippines.
17:32And I hope you get to give our movie a chance because it's not just a rom-com movie where
17:41it makes you feel good.
17:42It also gives you the feeling of being back in the Philippines.
17:49It talks a lot about our culture.
17:51What we eat, what we see, our community, how we interact with each other.
17:55I'm sure if you watch this, you'll be able to get rid of your homesickness in the Philippines.
18:02So thank you.
18:04Thank you so much.
18:05For everyone who's watching this, I hope you watch our movie, My Love Will Make You Disappear,
18:10showing this id and let's spread love, kilig, and good vibes inside the cinemas.
18:16See you there.
18:17Thank you so much.
18:20And I think we're also going to be there to go around screenings.
18:25I'm not 100% sure.
18:28But if we do, watch for the announcements and we're so excited to see everyone.
18:32Oh, I can't wait to see.
18:34I'm telling you, it's going to make all your fans go absolutely crazy about it.
18:38And I can't wait to see you in Dubai.
18:40You guys have earned the goodwill.
18:42I mean, everybody seems to love you.
18:44Well done, you guys.
