00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News Update for Tuesday, February the 3rd. Here are the
00:09top stories at this hour.
00:11A deadly winter snowstorm was forecast to lift after rallying the northeastern United
00:16States, forcing the delay of Boston's Super Bowl victory parade and snarling air traffic
00:21at several major airports.
00:23The second major storm in less than a week pummeled residents from New York City to Boston
00:27with snow, freezing rain and gusty winds. Weather conditions were a factor in at least
00:3210 deaths, including some in the Midwest, where the storm hit heavily.
00:37Secretary of State John Kerry praised Qatar for its help in trying to resolve the crisis
00:41in Yemen, amid hints the US is in contact with Al-Houthi rebels through go-betweens.
00:47Al-Houthi militia set a three-day deadline for political parties to resolve the power
00:51vacuum in Yemen, which was left after the President and Prime Minister offered to resign
00:55last month.
00:57The new Bahrain-based news channel Al Arab continues to be off air today after stopping
01:01news broadcasts only hours after its launch on Sunday. The Saudi-owned channel was taken
01:07off the air following an interview with a Bahraini opposition leader. Bahraini authorities
01:12have however denied that the interview was the reason behind the stoppage.
01:17Europe's top clubs shunned any last-minute scramble for players on the final trading
01:20day of the season, with Premier League leader Chelsea making the only major deal by completing
01:25formalities to sign Juan Codrado. The 26-year-old Colombian winger left Fiorentina for around
01:31£23 million on a four-and-a-half-year deal as Chelsea offloaded Andres Schurrle to German
01:37side Wolfsburg.
01:38Dave Matthews Band might have sold the most concert tickets of any band in the world,
01:42but until now they've never given UAE fans a chance to contribute to that honour. That
01:47will change in October when the band not only perform in the country, but launch their world
01:51tour here. The band kicks off their 2015 world tour at the Dew Arena on October 8 before
01:57heading to Europe.
01:59And finally the weather, today's high across the UAE will be 26 degrees Celsius, dropping
02:03to 14 degrees at night.
