00:00The criminal investigation and detection grouper CIDG arrested three individuals impersonating
00:05commission on election Sir Connellyke IT specialists. These suspects allegedly demanded
00:11millions from poll aspirants in exchange for guaranteeing their victory in the 2025
00:16midterm elections. Ryan Nasigas tells us more.
00:30This man was immediately arrested after being cornered by operatives of the criminal investigation
00:41and detection grouper CIDG in Marikina for offering election rigging services to candidates
00:46for Hatol ng Bayan 2025. According to CIDG acting director, Police Brigadier General
00:51Nicolas Torre III, the suspects were posing as representatives of the Commission on Elections.
00:56Their modus operandi involved offering candidates a guaranteed win in the May 2025 elections in
01:02exchange for 90 million pesos. The suspects claimed to be IT specialists with connections
01:07to the Comelec, promising their targets a sure win by allegedly having access to the automated
01:13election results. The scam was exposed after a candidate running for mayor and vice mayor
01:18in Cagayan became suspicious of the offer and reported it to the CIDG. The victims said they
01:23were first approached by the group in 2019 but ignored them when both eventually lost in the
01:29elections. In 2022, the group approached them again and this time, the victim allegedly paid
01:355 million pesos just to ensure the results of the election in their town were not manipulated.
01:41For the 2025 elections, the same group came back with the same offer. The victims then paid an
01:46initial 2 million pesos as part of a plan to have the suspects arrested. This led to an entrapment
01:52operation that resulted in the arrest of three individuals while five others managed to escape.
02:06Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laujancu warned these kinds of offer are nothing but scams as
02:11no one can manipulate election results. Comelec Commissioner Amy Ferolino also advised candidates
02:17to use their money for their campaigns rather than paying scammers for election fraud. The
02:21Comelec denied any connection to the suspects. We already have a certification from our personal
02:27department that these persons are not in the list of employees of the Commission on Elections.
02:52I don't think they can do that.
02:59We are now in the process of examining it. The suspects are facing multiple charges including
03:04robbery with intimidation or violence, robbery extortion, violations of the revised penal code
03:09in relation to the Cyber Crime Prevention Act of 2012 and the omnibus election code of the Philippines.
03:14The suspects refused to issue a statement. Ryan Lisigas from the National TV Network
03:21for a New and Better Philippines, Kamkramit.
