00:39resumed on Monday in Bogota, Colombia, with the in-person attendance of the former head

00:50Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra García from Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:55To begin with, Denise, stay with us.
01:10In Venezuela, the Bolivarian government informed that two planes of the airline Convias are
01:14heading to Venezuelan territory from the United States in the framework of the plan Back to
01:19the Homeland to bring back to the country migrant nationals.
01:22They also ratified their willingness to maintain direct relations of communication, respect
01:27and understanding with the government of President Donald Trump.
01:31In the statement issued, the administration of President Nicolás Maduro stated that,
01:36in the conversations held between the government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and
01:40the government of the United States of America, represented by the Special Envoy of President
01:45Trump, Ambassador Richard Grenell, Venezuela always made it clear that any transfer of
01:51Venezuelans should be done with absolute respect for their dignity and human rights.
01:56Consequently, we made the proposal that we would have Venezuelan planes to search for
02:01and transfer the migrants who are returning to their homeland today.
02:06They also went on to emphasize that Venezuela ratifies that what was discussed with the
02:12Special Envoy Grenell, that there is a false and malicious narrative surrounding the issue
02:17of the so-called Aragua train set by the media and representatives of the Biden administration
02:23to criminalize all Venezuelan migrants and stigmatize our country.
02:27On the contrary, the majority of migrants are decent and hard-working people.
02:32The government of President Nicolás Maduro more or less reiterates his proposal within
02:36the framework of the zero agenda for a new beginning of relations between both countries.
02:47In Ecuador, the presidential candidate for a citizen revolution, Luisa González, described
03:05as a triumph, the results obtained in the general elections, whose preliminary vote
03:09counting grants her advancement to the runoff and to be majored against the contender Daniel
03:14Novoa.
03:15In an interview to local media, Luisa González assured that she, alongside her team, had
03:20always planned to go to the second round.
03:23The nominee of the citizen revolution described as a battle of David against Goliath, the
03:28electoral contest she and Novoa are engaging.
03:31González emphasized that there are inconsistencies in the tally sheets that should be solved,
03:37especially in Guayas, Manaví and Esmeraldas.
03:40Furthermore, she questioned that Novoa has embarked on his path to re-election as acting
03:45president, noting that during this period, the state apparatus and state assets were
03:51misused to obtain votes.
04:00Luisa González, presidential candidate of the citizen revolution party, addressed her
04:04supporters minutes after the National Council's pronouncement, expressing her gratitude to
04:09the Ecuadorian people.
04:10Let's listen.
04:40Thanks to my people, thanks to my homeland, thanks to Ecuador, because this triumph is
04:46yours.
04:47The citizen revolution nominee Luisa González condemned candidate Leonidas Itza for obtaining
04:55a significant margin of voters, and she further urged all parties to unite for both their
05:01country and peace.
05:02I commend the other candidates who obtained some significant ballots, such as Leonidas
05:11Itza, who received an important vote.
05:16But I also invite once again, as I did months ago, I urge for unity, we the ones willing
05:22to build up a joint agenda, which will pave us the way for dignity and peace, so much
05:27wanted by us.
05:30I aspire to stop migration, death and violence.
05:39The president and candidate for re-election, Daniel Novoa, suspended the event he had planned
05:44due to the adverse results.
05:46Novoa and his campaign team had prepared for Sunday night an appearance in front of his
05:51supporters in a hotel in Quito, but the sermon was cancelled.
05:55Novoa did not make any statements during the whole electoral day, and was only seen when
06:00he went to vote very early in the morning.
06:03In social networks, they re-approached the president's attitude and accused him of lacking
06:08character and leadership.
06:15And now we have a short break coming up, don't go away, we'll be right back.
06:19Welcome back to From the South.
06:25In Bogotá, Colombia, trial against former president Álvaro Uribe resumed on Monday
06:29with the in-person attendance of former head of state.
06:34Before the court of Palo Quemado in the Colombian capital, Uribe faced a trial against him for
06:39alleged procedural fraud, bribery of witnesses and bribery in criminal proceedings.
06:44The victims of the case requested international observation to ensure compliance with justice
06:50and respect for the judges and magistrates who have intervened throughout the process.
06:55For his part, the former president maintained a discourse on his alleged innocence, using
07:00social networks and public appearances to reinforce his narrative.
07:09In the United States, President Donald Trump announced the imposition of 25% tariffs on
07:14steel and aluminium imports starting this Monday, February 10th.
07:18President Trump added that he will announce Tuesday or Wednesday the so-called reciprocal
07:23tariffs, which means that the United States will impose import tariffs on products in
07:28cases where another country has imposed tariffs on US goods.
07:32The US president had already imposed tariffs on 15% on steel and 10% on aluminium during
07:39his first term, although he later granted duty-free quarters to allied countries and
07:44blocs including Canada, Mexico and Brazil.
07:47According to experts, the measures announced by Trump threaten to unleash trade wars with
07:52the entire world.
07:59In response to the coercive US policies, the Chinese government lift tariffs on Washington,
08:05which affect some $14 billion worth of goods.
08:09Chinese taxes that range from 10% to 15% are targeting US exports on liquefied natural
08:15gas, crude oil and agricultural machinery, as well as some automotive products.
08:21The Chinese embassy to Washington confirmed the measure has been in force as of Sunday,
08:27February 9th.
08:38After the withdrawal of the Israeli army to the north of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian
08:52citizens reported finding their homes and schools in ruins.
08:56In the last few days, thousands of Palestinians returned to their homes, devastated by the
09:01Israeli genocide that started on October 7th, 2023, against the Gaza Strip.
09:06In the north of the enclave, citizens expressed their grief after finding the streets, schools
09:11and dozens of homes destroyed.
09:14Palestinian victims reported that they hoped to find schools in good condition to use as
09:19shelter while they rebuild their homes.
09:27Meanwhile, in the United States, President Donald Trump reiterated his controversial
09:32proposal to take control over the Gaza Strip.
09:35Several voices rejected the violation of Palestinian sovereignty and ethnic cleansing
09:39plans.
09:40The U.S. president said that Gaza should be considered a great real estate site and that
09:45other Middle Eastern countries could take charge of rebuilding the war-torn enclave.
09:51He also described the war-torn territory as a place of demolition, assuring that his administration
09:56will be committed to owning it to prevent actions by Hamas.
10:01Trump also claimed that displaced Palestinians prefer not to return to Gaza, sparking outrage
10:07from most of the international community.
10:32And in the face of the controversial statements
10:51made by U.S. President Donald Trump, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his
10:55rejection of the White House's proposals.
11:01Unfortunately, we see that the Israeli administration has more insidious and inhumane plans in mind
11:06instead of making the ceasefire permanent.
11:12First of all, I would like to say this clearly.
11:16The proposals put forward by the new American administration regarding Gaza under the pressure
11:21of the Zionist lobby are not worth our attention or discussion.
11:30Erdogan also expressed his rejection of any attempt to force Palestinians from their ancestral
11:35lands.
11:39No one has the power to displace the people of Gaza from their eternal homeland that has
11:43been around for thousands of years.
11:46Palestine, including Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, belongs to the Palestinians.
11:54The people of Gaza, who have not left their lands despite all the cruelty, savagery and
11:59attacks of Israel, will continue to stay in Gaza, live in Gaza and protect Gaza.
12:09In Iran, citizens celebrate the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in that country
12:13with the emblematic march of the 22nd of Mahmoud Bahman.
12:18The demonstration began in several cities of the country at 9 a.m. local time.
12:22On the evening of February 9, Iranians gathered in Asadi Square, Tehran, where a firework
12:28ceremony was held to commemorate the beginning of the week of the national holiday.
12:33Every February 11, the Iranian people reaffirmed their loyalty to the ideals of the Islamic
12:39Revolution and numerous mass deportations expressing their unity and commitment to the
12:44defense and sovereignty of the nation.

13:38Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia on Saturday disconnected the electrical system from the
13:46grid, linking them to Russia 30 years after the disintegration of the Soviet Union.
13:52The Baltic country's electricity system operated autonomously on Saturday to then
13:57be connected to the common European grid through Poland this Sunday.
14:01Experts say that the consequences of this step lead to uncertainty as Europe invests
14:07in renewable energies such as wind power.
14:10Also stated that the supply may be intermittent and may increase or decrease depending on
14:15the weather.
14:23Venezuelan Vice President Nelson Rodriguez arrived in India to participate in the third

14:45the Venezuelan model to overcome imperialist sanctions and blockades, which has allowed

14:55India and Venezuela maintain brotherly relations and share views on international, political
15:00and economic issues.
15:08Namibia's former President and leader of the country's independence, Sam Njoma, passed

15:35support.
15:36In 1990, Njoma became Namibia's first President and served three terms in office.
15:42With independence achieved, Sam Njoma promoted a policy of national reconciliation to leave
15:48behind the vestiges of decades of colonialism, racial discrimination and demonization of
15:54SWAPO.
15:55His 15 years of government offered a balance of democratic stability and economic reforms
16:01limited by the constraints of underdevelopment.

17:15Forest fires in southern Argentina devour more than 36,000 hectares in several towns
17:21and two national parks in the provinces of Chubut, Rio Negro and Nequén.
17:25According to official sources, the concentration of these fires represent a serious threat
17:31to the country's biodiversity and ecosystem.
17:33The situation has mainly affected the Lanín National Park, where more than 15,000 hectares
17:39have been burned, and despite intense firefighting efforts by the authorities, the fire is still

17:45Likewise, the provinces of Nequén and Rio Negro have also suffered serious damage, since
17:51the fire has consumed around 10,300 hectares in the areas of Los Manzanos and El Manso

18:02In this context, a new forest fire broke out near the city of Bariloche and threatens thousands
18:11of homes.
18:12Images were shared on social media of the new fire that broke out at around 9pm local
18:17time in the area of Bada del Nireco.
