00:00 Welcome back to From the South. In Venezuela, the process of registration of candidates for the presidential elections is to be held on July 28th.
00:08 Continuous on this second day of registration, two of the main right-wing parties registered their respected official candidates.
00:17 Let's see more details in the following report of our correspondent Gladys Casal.
00:21 Yes, thanks for the time and the contact here in From the South and also for Telus for English.
00:27 Yes, as we were reporting, today was the second day of the process of registry here in the National Electoral Council of Venezuela
00:35 where every candidate, every nominee by each political force in the country can come
00:41 and after submitting their digital inscription, they can come and do the registration by person,
00:48 also address their affiliates and address the National Electoral Council and give their message to the nation.
00:55 Also, on the second day, two opposition parties were nominating or registering their candidates
01:01 and turning them in the official representative of their political force ahead of the July 28th presidential elections.
01:08 That was the case of Antonio Carri of the Lapiz party, the Lapiz Alliance,
01:13 which is one of the center-right parties in the country, it's an opposition party,
01:19 but also it's one of the main political forces that proposes no interference with Venezuela's internal affairs.
01:26 Also, as part of their program, their government program, is the recovery of the Ezequiel region
01:33 and the support to all the legislation that is on behalf of that purpose, of that goal.
01:40 Also, Carri was present there with their affiliates and with other political forces that support him
01:47 and endorse his candidacy and his nomination.
01:50 Also, other political forces were present.
01:53 Juan Carlos Alvarado was ratified and registered as the candidate by other party,
01:59 the Independent Electoral Political Organizations Committee, COPEI.
02:03 That is the acronym of this organization.
02:06 This is one of the oldest organizations in the country and is a right-guided, right-affiliated organization in the nation
02:14 and has been gaining traction in prior elections and is one of the oldest, as I was saying, one of the older organizations.
02:24 And it had a prime political position many years ago with or alongside Acción Democrática or Democratic Action.
02:36 The candidate by this party also was referring to the need to find common sense
02:42 and concord between all the political forces to find solutions to Venezuela's issues
02:47 and also not to be engaged in confrontations, not to be engaged in asking for more sanctions.
02:54 And even though they are opposite political forces or they are against maybe the government,
03:01 they have the common convention and the common idea that Venezuela cannot go into a civil war,
03:08 not go to a confrontation between parties, nor to find in the conflict a way to resolve nothing.
03:15 So they were agreed or they agreed in this position.
03:19 And also today other political forces came here to nominate their candidates.
03:25 In that case, or well, maybe to ratify and register their candidates.
03:29 In that occasion was Somos Venezuela, Patria para Todos, Alianza para el Cambio and El Partido Verde de Venezuela.
03:38 These four political forces are part of the great patriotic pull.
03:43 And they came here to the National Electoral Council to register Nicolás Maduro Moros
03:48 as the candidate of these political forces that gathers many leftist parties and leftist organizations,
03:56 among them ecologists, feminist organizations, LGBTQI organizations.
04:01 And all of them came here just to ratify their support for the president
04:06 and their support for a solution for Venezuela's issues and a democratic solution also for these problems.
04:14 Also tomorrow there will be the third day for the nomination and the registry of the candidates.
04:20 And it is expected that more right-guided and more independent candidates will come here
04:29 to officially register to be part of the electoral process.
04:34 That's the information for today.
04:36 That's the summary of what is happening today here in Venezuela, in Caracas,
04:40 and also here in the National Electoral Council.
04:43 We will have more details in upcoming emissions.
04:46 And of course tomorrow we will be here to cover these events.
04:51 And now back to you.
