00:00Candidates seeking elective office in May's midterm elections begin to go on the stump tomorrow,
00:06and the women and men of the PNP also go on active service to man checkpoints nationwide
00:13to keep the peace and order, especially in election hotspots and areas of concern.
00:18Orion Desigas has more on a couple of PNP requests
00:22when motorists go under inspection at checkpoints starting mañana.
00:26The security deployment of the Philippine National Police or PNP is all set for the
00:33start of the campaign period for national candidates tomorrow. PNP spokesperson and
00:37Police Regional Office 3 Director, Police Brigadier General Gene Fajardo said that in
00:42addition to checkpoints, they will deploy a sufficient number of personnel, especially
00:46in the 403 areas identified by COMELEC as areas of concern.
00:56The PNP reminds police personnel manning checkpoints to be cautious when flagging
01:15down motorists, as the number of vehicles passing through is expected to double once
01:19campaign sorties begin. The PNP also appeals to candidates and their supporters who will
01:24be passing through checkpoints. Meanwhile, even before the March deadline set by PNP
01:46Chief Police General Rommel Francisco Marvil to disband active and potential private armed
01:50groups or PAGs in the country, the only remaining PAG in Central Luzon has already surrendered
01:56to Police Regional Office 3. The Ginto Group turned over various firearms and ammunition,
02:01which will go through a verification process to ensure they were not used in any criminal
02:06activities. However, despite the surrender of the leader and their weapons, they will
02:11still undergo a process before being removed from the list of private armed groups.
02:21According to PNP records, beside the Ginto Group in Webay, SIHA,
02:50there are also active PAGs in Negros Oriental and Sulu in Region 9. Meanwhile, five other groups
02:56are identified as potential PAGs in Region 1, 2, 4A, Region 8, and BARMM. In the latest PNP report,
03:04COMELEC checkpoints have reached 186,000 with one recorded election-related incident.
