महाकुंभ में 13 जनवरी से डेरा जमाए नागा साधु बसंत पंचमी के स्नान के बाद से प्रस्थान की तैयारी में लगे हुए हैं। अखाड़ों के तीनों शाही स्नान पूरे हो चुके हैं, जिनका सबसे अधिक महत्व होता है। पंच निर्वाणी अखाड़े के नागा संत अंतिम स्नान के अगले ही दिन प्रस्थान कर गए थे।परंपरा के अनुसार, जाने से पहले वे दो विशेष कार्य करते हैं-पहला, कढ़ी-पकौड़ी का भंडारा आयोजित कर संतों और श्रद्धालुओं को प्रसाद बांटते हैं, जो सदियों पुरानी परंपरा है। दूसरा, अपने शिविर में लगी धर्म ध्वज की डोर को ढीला कर देते हैं, जो उनके प्रस्थान का प्रतीक माना जाता है।
