The ‘Community Barber’ initiative will be expanded to People’s Housing Projects (PPR) and Public Housing (PA) around Kuala Lumpur in an effort to improve the socio-economic status of residents.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr Zaliha Mustafa, said the move was the result of discussions she had with the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif.

00:00So, today we are in the official meeting of the community barbershop.
00:15This is part of the Puji at Gaya initiative.
00:20And we know that there are 6 flagships or categories under Puji.
00:26And among them is Upaya at Puji.
00:28We aim to promote low-income or low-income barbershops.
00:37But this time, it is a bit different and special.
00:42Our target for this time is the barbershop category.
00:47So, in this category, we have barbershop development.
00:51And in this barbershop development, we have two important initiatives.
00:54One is related to income.
00:56And the other is related to other things.
01:00Today, we are trying to make them part of the community barbershop.
01:11That's why we are implementing this PPR.
01:14Because we have areas that we can build and make it a center for them to use.
01:21And we provide a very minimal rent, which is only RM250.
01:26And I am sure that this will provide a good income for them.
01:31With the cooperation between ERAD and Kuala Lumpur.
01:35And God willing, we will make sure that they can make a living
01:40and get a comfortable living.
01:44And also training.
01:46Before that, we have been training them for two months.
01:50For those who are interested.
01:52And today, we have chosen four of the best.
01:55And we have given them a premise for them to continue their interest
02:00and also to become a business owner and a source of income for them.
02:09That's what was suggested.
02:11This is a good view for me.
02:13I have discussed this with Datuk Banda.
02:15And we will have at least one barbershop in each community.
02:23Oh, the guys have a place to cut their hair.
02:25What about the girls?
02:27That's also our suggestion.
02:29Actually, before this, there was training given to female participants.
02:35It's just that they are not sustained and are not interested
02:40to challenge themselves in the business.
02:42But we will continue this effort to involve more women.
02:47And for me, there is a demand for female barbers.
02:52And God willing, we will try.
