00:00All right, it's another Super Bowl, another Super Bowl weekend, and of course, we're in New Orleans.
00:05And just like last year, I'm joined by El Presidente Dave Portnoy.
00:09Last year, we were in our infancy. We were just starting Frank Walks.
00:12Now, 40 episodes later, we're going strong. We're getting walks all the time.
00:17And thank you for joining on another walk.
00:19Of course.
00:20Of course, we're hydrated by Body Armor.
00:22You know, Body Armor really does these good for the walks.
00:25Get them at 7-Eleven. You can supply one more at your local grocery store.
00:47Looking good too, Frank. How many pounds are we down from the last walk?
00:51I'm down to 314.
00:53And what was it a year ago?
00:55Well, I was probably about 350 last year at this time.
00:59I mean, I was 383 when I started in September of 2023.
01:07It's like a whole new man lost a whole person.
01:09Yeah. Well, at my heaviest in 2015-2016, I was like 520.
01:16It's literally two people. You lost two me's.
01:21It's great.
01:23Two me's and three spiders.
01:25It's great. Inspiring a lot of people too. It's great.
01:28It's great. I got Don, who this guy is battling cancer.
01:33We got Aaron. We got a guy, Dan, I think it is, from Milwaukee.
01:40These guys are people I've met who are really inspired.
01:44This guy, Aaron, was having heart trouble.
01:48Now his heart's doing much better because he's walking.
01:52He's following my walks and trying to walk alongside me.
01:57I love that. Do you feel much better?
02:00Yes, I do.
02:01Good. That's great. That's the most important part.
02:03And this is the toughest time of year to walk, let me tell you.
02:05In New York, you're talking because of the weather?
02:07Oh, yeah.
02:08Brutal. I don't deal with that anymore. I'm a snowbird.
02:12But that's where the tax havens help.
02:14Yeah, well, that's true. That's true.
02:19I mean, it's brutal. This has been a cold winter too, so far.
02:24So you're going to catch a little nice weather here at least.
02:27Oh, yeah. It's nice.
02:29Are you a fan of New Orleans?
02:31First time I've ever been to New Orleans.
02:33Oh, we just had a crash there with Mikey Betts into the porta-party.
02:37This is your first trip to New Orleans?
02:39Yeah, I've never been to New Orleans.
02:41I've been to Shreveport, but not New Orleans.
02:44What are your thoughts so far?
02:46I like the architecture.
02:48Yeah, very old, cool.
02:50I'm not a big Bourbon Street guy, but I like the surrounding parts a lot.
02:55It's basically like Times Square, New York.
02:57Yeah, exactly right.
02:58It's the last place you want to be.
03:00Yeah.
03:03So we've got the Super Bowl coming up this week.
03:06Of course, Chiefs, Eagles, and everyone's got Chiefs fatigue.
03:12You know, I don't have Chiefs fatigue.
03:16Maybe because I come from the Patriots world.
03:18I mean, they're great.
03:20I can give them their flowers.
03:22This is, to me, a really compelling game.
03:24Rematch when they played the other time, Mahomes going.
03:27I mean, how can you get fatigue if somebody's going for something
03:31that's never been done in the history of the league, which is the three-peat?
03:35I think a lot of it has to do with the officiating and the bad calls.
03:40Yeah.
03:41I think if the Chiefs won every game without question
03:47and there was no, like, calls that are just, like, wrong,
03:52I don't think they'd have the same fatigue.
03:54I could see that.
03:56And listen, I bet a million on the Bills to win the Super Bowl,
03:58so that was horrible.
04:00But then after reflection and calming down for a minute,
04:03you know, on a QB sneak, you should never leave it that close to begin with.
04:08So, I don't know.
04:10I think this restaurant, by the way, will be.
04:14I've got to try this at some point.
04:16I feel like this is a real deal.
04:17They've got a lot of cool-looking restaurants.
04:21Yeah, they do.
04:24I don't know why that one sticks out in our area where we're staying.
04:27There's so much around here.
04:29It's starting to get real busy for the Super Bowl, too.
04:31You can tell it's picking up.
04:34Now, what do we have going on this weekend that fans could tune into on Sunday?
04:40When is this thing airing?
04:41Friday.
04:42Friday, all right.
04:43So, well, Friday is kind of we start winding down.
04:47We've been doing daily radio this week.
04:51But most of our people head out of town on Saturday.
04:55I'm going to be here, I think, until Sunday morning.
04:59But we really wind down by the time this airs.
05:02Are we getting a nice stream this year?
05:05The Super Bowl?
05:06Yes.
05:07Yeah, they're going to be in Chicago.
05:08I think I'll be back in Miami for it.
05:10But, yeah, the crew is going to head to Chicago, and they'll be doing a stream for it.
05:14I mean, what a crew getting John Gruden.
05:17John Gruden is one of our best hires we ever had.
05:21I've seen so many people, like this morning, Dan and I just wake up,
05:24and we're, you know, chopping it up, talking Johnny Manziel.
05:27He bought me a fake Caitlin Clark jersey.
05:29Yeah, I saw that.
05:30Did you know that was fake right away?
05:32I didn't know it was fake right away.
05:33Yeah, so I'm a super fan.
05:34I didn't know either.
05:35I actually texted her.
05:37I was like, hey, what number did you wear in high school?
05:40She's like, I wore 11.
05:41Everyone thinks I wore 22.
05:42And there are a couple photos floating around.
05:45She must have wore a practice jersey 22.
05:47I don't know why she didn't wear 22 in the game.
05:50I don't care if it was a fake.
05:53I almost embarrassed myself.
05:54Being the number one Caitlin Clark fan would have been a tough look.
05:57Well, I got my jersey collection.
05:58I got all sorts of jerseys in my closet there.
06:01And I don't care if they're, like, knockoff or anything as long as they're real
06:05and look real.
06:06Well, you wouldn't want the wrong number.
06:08No, I wouldn't want the wrong number.
06:09Yeah, I don't care if it's a fake jersey.
06:11Like, I don't care if it's not the authentic, but I need it to be the actual.
06:14You can't have 22 on a high school jersey when she wore 11.
06:20That can't happen.
06:21You probably like this story.
06:22You could call out all the fakes or all the wrong numbers.
06:26I don't know where he got it from.
06:28John Gruden, his heart's in the right place.
06:30I've been talking to him.
06:31We're going to try to get some card content.
06:33He loves you.
06:34Yeah.
06:35Yeah, he said you guys are going to get a table.
06:38Yeah, the sports card convention in Chicago.
06:41That'll be unbelievable.
06:42That's going to be.
06:43He said he has an unbelievable collection.
06:46Are you a card guy?
06:47Yes, I am.
06:48I'm cataloging my cards now.
06:51My goal is I'm going to try to collect every net team set ever for Tops.
06:55Yep.
06:56And I got the big two recently.
06:57I got Nolan Ryan rookie and a Tom Seaver rookie.
07:01How'd you get those?
07:02I bought them off eBay.
07:04How much do those cost?
07:06They cost me about $700 each.
07:08And they're not in great shape.
07:10They're not, like, perfectly mint.
07:12I just wanted them.
07:13I thought a Nolan Ryan rookie was way more than that.
07:16It's a two.
07:18Got it.
07:19Because Tops didn't have the original or something?
07:21No, it's condition.
07:23Oh, two out of a ten, you mean?
07:25Yeah, so I don't care about the condition.
07:28How much does a mint one?
07:30Probably like $10,000, $20,000.
07:32Yeah, that's what I thought.
07:33Yeah.
07:34Well, I'm not going after them.
07:36I want them personally.
07:37I want the card.
07:38You know what?
07:39One of my worst investments I've ever had?
07:42Craig Jeffery's rookie card.
07:44I loaded up on Craig Jeffery's.
07:46He was supposed to be the next big thing.
07:48Yeah, I was 13 years old.
07:49He's a Met.
07:50Future star, right?
07:51Yeah.
07:52He's in his crouch.
07:53Yeah.
07:54I must have had 1,000 of those.
07:55He's the guy that broke the Mets up.
07:57He's the Yoko Ono of the Mets.
07:59What happened to him?
08:01Well, what happened was basically...
08:02Oh, look at this guy.
08:03Hi.
08:04What a cutie pie.
08:07What basically happened was they brought him up at the end of the 88 season.
08:11And he had a good season.
08:13But he came in thinking that his shit didn't stink.
08:15Like, Keith Hernandez grabbed one of his bats, and he's like,
08:19Don't touch my bats.
08:20And Keith Hernandez is the captain.
08:22Jeffery said that to Keith Hernandez?
08:24Yes.
08:25That's crazy.
08:26So he caused a lot of friction in the locker room.
08:28He also was, like, telling the team management what players were stepping on the wires.
08:34He basically said that Lenny Dykstra's using steroids.
08:38And he was, like, narking these players to, like, management.
08:42And Dykstra hated him.
08:45That's why the Mets traded Dykstra.
08:47Huh.
08:48So everyone on the Mets liked Dykstra didn't like him.
08:51So he caused, like, friction in the clubhouse.
08:55That's crazy.
08:56And he didn't live up to the expectations.
08:58Fans started booing.
09:00I mean, he was supposed to be the next big thing.
09:02Yeah.
09:03He read those press conferences, and he thought he was the next big thing.
09:06Where did he go from the Mets?
09:08They traded him to the Royals for Brett Saberhagen.
09:11Oh, that was a good trade for the Mets.
09:13Yeah, Saberhagen actually, even though the Mets were a disaster,
09:17Saberhagen had some good years with the Mets.
09:19And nothing ever became of Craig Jeffries.
09:21Yeah, like maybe one all-star appearance with the Cardinals or something like that.
09:24He bounced around the Royals, Cardinals, Phillies.
09:26He made it all-star team?
09:27Yep.
09:28Wow, I didn't know that.
09:29A couple years after, but he was never anywhere close than what he was expecting.
09:35He was in my era.
09:38Yeah, I'm going to go through.
09:40Craig Jeffries, these are the cards.
09:43Ricky Jordan, Todd Van Poppel.
09:46Those are three big, like if you had those,
09:49you were flexing pretty hard with your card collection back in the day.
09:53Here's another thing you didn't know about Craig Jeffries.
09:5688 for the Orioles were terrible.
09:58They fired Cal Ripken Sr. as manager.
10:01Buckface on the bat.
10:02Yep, that was Billy Ripken.
10:03Eric Hart, Billy Ripken.
10:04I got that.
10:05You do have that card?
10:06Yes, I do.
10:07Is that still worth a lot?
10:08It's worth like $40.
10:10So, anyway, the Orioles were close to trading Cal Ripken Jr.,
10:17and the Mets refused to part with Craig Jeffries in a Ripken trade.
10:23I did not know that.
10:24Yep.
10:25That's funny.
10:26It was like, you know how they had the trade?
10:28I don't see many of those shirts, huh?
10:31You know how they have the trade deadline rumor going around?
10:34Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:35That was the hot rumor going into the trade deadline,
10:37that the Mets were trying to get Ripken,
10:40and basically they just couldn't.
10:42They didn't want to part with Jeffries.
10:45Crazy.
10:47I invested a lot in Juan Gonzalez cards, Phil Plantier cards,
10:52card market content.
10:53I had Canseco with the Eric Plunk rookie, the Fleer.
10:56They overproduced.
10:57That's what they call it, the junk wax era.
11:00They overproduced.
11:01You know, cards that even shot up in value have come down
11:06because of just the overproduction of it, like Don Mattingly cards,
11:10which were highly valuable.
11:12It just was an overproduced era,
11:14and it's called the junk wax era for a reason.
11:18What's your most valuable card?
11:20It might be the Nolan Ryan rookie.
11:23Even though it's in bad shape?
11:24Yeah, even though it's not in great shape.
11:26The Sieber rookie is also pretty valuable.
11:28I've got the Griffey upper deck.
11:31Oh, that's worth more than those.
11:33Yeah, it probably is if I get it graded.
11:35Yeah.
11:36It probably is if I get it graded.
11:38I had the Griffey.
11:39Yeah, that's the era.
11:41I loved cards.
11:42My friends and I would have like what we call a trade fest
11:45where we'd all come sit in my basement with our cards,
11:48sit there for seven hours.
11:49Not one trade was ever made, no trades.
11:52No trades ever made.
11:57The minute the Super Bowl is going to be wrapping up,
11:59what's coming in the next few months that fans can look forward to?
12:05Obviously, we go from the Super Bowl to the next big event
12:11will be March Madness, then the Masters.
12:14We have some golf stuff coming up.
12:21We follow the sports calendar to a degree.
12:24Well, the sports calendar I've always figured is this.
12:28It's the New Year's Day for the sports calendar is the day after the Super Bowl.
12:33It's like 2024 ends with the Super Bowl.
12:36Yeah, I agree with that.
12:37Yeah, right.
12:38And then the next thing is March Madness, then the Masters, then opening day.
12:43Then you're kind of the dog days of summer a little bit, NBA finals.
12:48But, yeah, we have a lot of that coming up.
12:52What about that stupid Mavericks trade?
12:54I don't know what the Dallas Mavericks are thinking.
12:57Stunning.
12:58Stunning.
12:59But it's weird because I don't consider myself an NBA savant,
13:02but everything I'm reading is also saying the pieces are so awkward for the Lakers.
13:10They don't have a rim protector now,
13:12so people are like they're giving up on their season I'm seeing.
13:16I don't know.
13:17It's a crazy trade.
13:18I've heard things that basically LeBron might not be on the block.
13:24Yes.
13:25Because the Lakers, this trade wasn't to get LeBron.
13:29Right.
13:30I've heard that too.
13:31This was to make, we're getting Luka and we're going to build around Luka.
13:33Correct.
13:34Well, yeah, because, again, you can't have no rim protectors.
13:39You can't just have.
13:40And for the thing with Dallas, they already had good centers.
13:43I don't know.
13:44I mean, Luka took him to the title game last year and it got smoked.
13:49The Celtics exposed him on defense.
13:51But he was also tired and hurt.
13:53I think they just hate Luka.
13:54And his contract was up.
13:56So, you know, you always criticize teams.
13:59It's like, well, if you're not going to be able to re-sign the guy,
14:02why are you keeping him and not getting anything back?
14:04So maybe they just didn't think they could.
14:06But why you wouldn't shop him is crazy.
14:08Yeah.
14:09I would think he could get more.
14:12Yeah, that's Terry.
14:14That was.
14:15That's the part that's confusing because Davis, I mean, he's a good player,
14:21but, you know, he has his injury issues.
14:23Yeah.
14:24He misses 20, 30 games a year.
14:27He's not like Joel Embiid.
14:29Yeah, it'll be interesting.
14:31Like the GM said, time will tell if he's right or wrong.
14:37I read something this guy, the GM, was also the guy who cost like Steph Curry.
14:42Right?
14:43Yeah.
14:44What company?
14:45Was it Nike?
14:46I forgot what it was, but it was like a bad shoe deal or something.
14:49He mispronounced his name in the meeting.
14:51Yeah, I spelled it incorrectly.
14:53Yeah.
14:54I spelled it Steven.
14:55Yeah.
14:56Listen, it's a balls on the table move to make that trade, but we'll see.
15:01I mean, I can't imagine it working out.
15:03I mean, Luka's spectacular.
15:05And he's like an international superstar.
15:08It's just crazy.
15:10Well, it's like Dallas is just in tatters right now.
15:13They lost by like 40 the first game after.
15:17And it just caught everyone by surprise, even like the players.
15:21It was like I was asleep.
15:23I woke up to it.
15:25Yeah.
15:26I was just about to go to bed, and I just saw the trade coming for us.
15:29I was like, what?
15:30Yeah, wild.
15:32People thought it was fake at first.
15:34I mean, it's a trade that the Mavericks are going to regret for years.
15:42You'd think so.
15:45Yeah.
15:46And, I mean, doubly, because if they're wrong,
15:49it's like it's rare where you make a trade and everyone's like,
15:51they just got screwed, they just got screwed.
15:53And everyone in real time is like, what a horrible trade.
15:56So, we'll see.
15:58I don't think Anthony Davis is anywhere near the player that Luka is.
16:03He's older, too.
16:05Yeah.
16:06I don't understand, especially with the Mavericks,
16:08because when you say, well, he didn't play defense, this and that,
16:11they actually have a blueprint of, I don't want to say similar,
16:15it's a different position,
16:16but Dirk wasn't exactly a lockdown defender and they won a title with him.
16:20No, he wasn't.
16:22You know what it is?
16:24It's where you bring the snake in the house.
16:29And we're talking about Kyrie Irving.
16:31I agree with you on that, Frank.
16:33Where you bring the snake in the house, bad things happen.
16:35Just a matter of time until the team's destroyed one way or the other.
16:39I mean, the Celtics were smart enough to get rid of him
16:43and realize they were better off without him.
16:45And it wasn't even our choice.
16:47He didn't want to stay.
16:49And now we're like 18-1, 19-1 against him or something.
16:52They won that one playoff game, that's it.
16:55A playoff game I think the Celtics lost just to be nice
16:58and sort of clinch the title at home.
17:01I flew to Dallas for that game.
17:03It was over by halftime.
17:05I think the Celtics went in there and said,
17:07do we really want to celebrate Dallas
17:09or do we want to go home and celebrate in Boston?
17:11I'd agree with that.
17:13I've seen that happen a lot of times.
17:15I think the Celtics are going to win again this year.
17:17I think they're by far the best team still.
17:19I think you're basically jogging right now.
17:22They are.
17:23They beat Cleveland, I don't know what the final is.
17:25They were beating them by 100 yesterday at one point.
17:27But I think you're jogging right now.
17:29I don't believe in the Cavs.
17:30No, me neither.
17:31The only team I think that could give the Celtics a hard time,
17:34and that's if they're fully healthy and Mitchell Robinson gets,
17:38and maybe they add another piece, is the Knicks.
17:40I think that's the only team that could really,
17:43if the cards fall right, could challenge the Celtics in the East.
17:48And the West, I don't trust anyone in the West against the Celtics.
17:53Maybe the Thunder.
17:55It's a pretty good young team.
17:56I don't see any of it.
17:57Celtics, I think, will be better than they were the year before.
18:00They're just so deep, so talented, so loaded.
18:02No weaknesses.
18:04Zero.
18:06Yeah, I could see them repeating.
18:10Of course, we've got Mikey here today.
18:12Mikey Betts.
18:13Yeah.
18:14He's doing a good job on camera today.
18:16It's a tough role to do the walk back.
18:18And Jenks is back in New York mitigating budget.
18:21Oh, yeah.
18:22Trying to get more things.
18:23What?
18:24What?
18:25We're all wearing our logo shirts here.
18:28You get the Frank, I get Darth Vader, Sandler.
18:34Well, if you watch new Star Wars movies, you see the Emperor is right.
18:38Oh, but what do you mean by that?
18:40Just how bad the New Republic was.
18:42Oh, I watch everything Star Wars.
18:45I was watching the Disney show, Skeleton Crew.
18:49I watch everything.
18:50I haven't got to that yet.
18:53It was pretty good.
18:54Yeah, I hear that.
18:56A little kiddish, a little Goonies.
18:59One of the characters I didn't love, but overall, a pretty good show.
19:02I love Mandalorian, Andor.
19:06I love all of it.
19:07And I actually am probably in the minority.
19:10I think for the most part, the new Star Wars are pretty good.
19:12I don't like them.
19:13Yeah, that's what a lot of people say.
19:15I like them.
19:16I love Rey.
19:18I think she's great.
19:19I didn't say that.
19:20She wasn't a problem.
19:21I like Rey.
19:22The Rey was kind of in The Last Jedi.
19:24And then they tried to fix it in Rise of Skywalker.
19:29And they kind of made it like, I don't think they had a cohesive plan going in.
19:33I mean, I thought the middle ones, like when they first brought it back,
19:38with Hayden Christensen, those I thought were terrible.
19:41Oh, really?
19:42Yeah, I didn't like those.
19:43I like Revenge of the Sith.
19:46Oh, see, I didn't.
19:48Interesting.
19:50You like Darth Maul?
19:52Yep.
19:53Oh, I hated him.
19:54You know who ended up becoming my favorite character?
19:56Emperor Palpatine.
19:58Interesting.
19:59He ended up becoming my favorite character,
20:01just how he just manipulated everyone and nobody saw it.
20:06Interesting.
20:07I mean, I always like him.
20:09I mean, just how cool he played it.
20:14Like he was like four steps ahead of everyone, like Bill Belichick.
20:19Well, that's a good comparison.
20:22We always make those videos.
20:24Yeah, Bill Belichick had the hood up.
20:26Yeah, and we make Star Wars, like the Imperial March with Belichick on it
20:32because that's how they treated him.
20:34Where are we going, a meth hospital here?
20:37Is that where you're taking us?
20:40Now, of course, you're popular, but you know who's more popular than you?
20:45Your two dogs, Peaches and Pete.
20:48Yeah, they've taken the world by storm.
20:51So Miss Peach's anniversary is Valentine's Day, so it's coming up.
20:56It's next week.
20:58So we've got a big celebration planned for her.
21:00But, yeah, people love them.
21:02People love dogs, and I hit home runs with both of them.
21:05Pete's a little bit nuts.
21:07It's a beagle, and boy dogs are a little crazy.
21:10Female dogs are a little more docile.
21:12Boy dogs just want to jump around and want to do everything.
21:15Yeah, so keeps Peaches on her toes, keeps her young.
21:19And someone said it right, like Peaches is my dog and Pete's Peach's dog.
21:24But they're best friends, and I can't imagine really not having them.
21:29And, of course, they're both rescues.
21:31They're both rescues, same rescue.
21:33Lifeline Animal Shelter in Atlanta, Georgia.
21:36So we found them both.
21:38I saw a picture of Pete just on, like, one of the adoption day,
21:42and I just fell in love with him.
21:43So, yeah, it's a great story,
21:45and we're trying to be pretty active using them to encourage people
21:48if you're going to get a dog to adopt instead of shopping
21:52because there's so many great dogs in shelters.
21:54It's heartbreaking, really.
21:55Yeah.
21:56And people just adopt instead of buying.
21:58You clean the shelters out.
21:59You know, it's overbreeding.
22:00There's a lot of scumbags out there in the world.
22:03The puppy mills.
22:04Yeah, exactly.
22:05They don't give a shit.
22:06Like, that's what happened with Peaches.
22:08She was bred, and they just throw her in the trash when she's done
22:11because she was a mama and had the litters.
22:13She couldn't do more litters,
22:15and basically they have no use for the dog anymore.
22:18And Miss Peaches is literally the sweetest angel in the world.
22:21How anybody could be mean to that dog?
22:23You deserve, like, the seventh layer of hell.
22:28Yeah, the people that abuse dogs, like, ridiculous.
22:31Brutal.
22:32Brutal.
22:33I'll never forgive Michael Vick, ever.
22:35Yeah.
22:38I mean, and he was so stupid.
22:41Yeah.
22:42And he flushed it all down the toilet.
22:43Yeah, yeah.
22:44I mean, I guess his defense,
22:46if you grow up and you don't know anything different, but still.
22:49I don't know how you look at a dog and not know anything different.
22:54Well, anything else you want to add?
22:58Oh, it's been a great, great run.
23:03Great run for you.
23:04Yep, we're looking to get more this year.
23:07We've got ****** coming up soon.
23:09We're walking him one today, actually,
23:11but we're going to be dropping a lot of episodes,
23:13and we got, like, a 24-episode sponsorship from Body Armor, of course.
23:18I love that.
23:19And they always do a good job for us,
23:21and we're trying to get more sponsors.
23:23Hopefully, we can get more sponsors.
23:25Who's on that Body Armor?
23:26Christian McCaffrey.
23:30Oh, I thought it was a Raiders uniform.
23:32I thought I was confused.
23:34Yeah, Christian McCaffrey.
23:36Got it.
23:37Oh, yeah, MCM.
23:40I'm proud of you, Frank.
23:41You turned this into quite a thing.
23:43Oh, thanks a lot.
23:44And thanks again for taking some time to walk with us.
23:47Yeah, of course.
23:48Look forward to what we can do next year and beyond.
23:50We'll make it an annual tradition, the Super Bowl walk.
23:52Yes.
23:53I love it.
23:54Where's it next year?
23:55I don't know where it is.
23:56Isn't it Santa Clara?
23:57I think it might be Santa Clara next year.
23:59I like when they don't go west coast.
24:00I don't know where it is.
24:01All right.
24:02Thank you, Frank.
24:03Thanks.
24:04Good seeing you.
24:05Bye.
