00:05Giants linebacker Giants team captain Bobby okara. Okay. I mean, thank you for joining
00:11You want to go for a nice little walk around the city of New York? Let's do it brother. Go. Oh, yeah
00:24I'm going well, I'm
00:26Walking every day and I'm nearly 300 straight days of walking. Really? Yes
00:32How long you walk for? Ah, well depends on today. I my goal is to get
00:38at least
00:4010,000 is my minimum 10,000 steps. Yep. I 10,000 is my minimum and I'm shooting for 15
00:4715,000 steps a day and damn so
00:51Are you trying to go to the Apple watch? Are you tracking? I got the Fitbit Fitbit. Yes, I got the Fitbit
00:56I have a Fitbit. That's the way to go. Yes. Yes
01:00All right
01:02Respect
01:03But yeah, it's it's and it would no matter where I'm at. I walk. Yeah. Yeah, so I'll go into
01:10National card show next week. I'm gonna be walking
01:14The in Cleveland, yes, that's where the card show is
01:17If I'm in Chicago, I'll walk in Chicago no matter where I no matter where I'm at
01:22I walk you walk to work or what's what's the process? I walk. I walk from Penn Station because I live in New Jersey
01:29Yeah, and of course
01:31sometimes in New Jersey, uh with the way the uh, the trains work
01:35You might as well be uh, you might actually have to walk on the trains because uh, New Jersey transit breaks down all the time
01:43Yes, it's it
01:45They actually announced today that the trains are going to be delays because of uh extreme heat really
01:51Yeah, even though it's a uh, actually a a lovely
01:55I would say a lovely day out here today. It's it's I mean, we haven't had one of these summer days
02:00I mean we've had a lot of oppressive heat this summer true. I mean, but
02:04Last few days. It's actually been quite pleasant. Yeah, and it's been hot. Yeah. I know we've had a we've had a we've had a
02:12a hot summer and uh
02:14You're about to go to training camp. I'm about to go to training camp brother
02:17I mean the training camp experience and of course the one thing i'm noticing is uh this year about the giants. Yeah this
02:26Hard knocks off season. Yeah, what is your thoughts about what's going on with that show?
02:32You know, I love it. I think it's great insight
02:34You know, we've had the training camp experience we get the in-season experience and now this is true like off-season back office
02:41So I think it's highlighting joe. It's highlighting dion
02:44I mean the giants are really putting their necks out in this show. No, we are where you're getting exclusive access. I mean
02:53It's access I can't believe that they've given especially with the decision of making free agents and signing people
03:00I mean the giants decided to uh
03:02that
03:03Saquon barkley was no longer part of their plans. I know and then he goes to a division rival
03:08and if he has a
03:09He has a big year
03:11There's gonna be some people in the giant strands at the giant camp that's gonna have to be answering some questions for real
03:16But the giants look like they've uh operated on building up the defense because they said they figured out last year
03:21The team turnaround when he played when he started to play better late in the season was based on the defense
03:28Yeah, we got some star players. I mean dexter lawrence, obviously kvon tibidell
03:32Uh, we just signed brian burns for a great big deal. Yeah, brian burns that now
03:36What do you think he's uh?
03:38What?
03:39It does his addition help giant. How does he help the giants?
03:43Get to a point where hey this year we're gonna make in the playoffs
03:46Uh, I mean he's got an electric, you know presence. So from a pass rush perspective, uh, just his demeanor in the locker room
03:53Um, you know, he's a veteran in this league and he's gonna help us. Uh win a lot of games
03:57I mean the uh the giants
03:59last year
04:00Daniel jones went down. Yep, and then you had uh, tommy devito. Tommy devito. Yeah, tommy devito my guy
04:09You know, I actually I actually live on a street really that's uh called tommy devito way. Okay
04:15It's it's it's it's an honorary name. It's not the real name of the street, but it's the honorary name
04:18They named it after him. Uh, actually they named out the guy from the four seasons the jersey boys
04:23Okay, so we got tommy. So I I literally go down my street
04:26I see the sign tommy devito way every time like really i'm on my own
04:30Go to uh, go home. So all right
04:33tommy
04:34Shout out tommy come down to tommy devito way. Come on
04:39But yeah, come on you showed it
04:41I mean this guy became a hero last year. No for real the way he played
04:45I mean from playing in his state
04:47high school state championship game at met life to
04:50I mean the run that he had winning a couple games in a row, especially that packers game coming down from behind
04:55um, shout out tommy, but yeah, uh, but
04:58And you had a big year last year. You had a
05:01a great season for the giants
05:03I had two interceptions number of pass knockdowns. Yeah, uh, you were among the leading tacklers on the team
05:11I mean
05:12You're and now you're going to go into season
05:14You're a defensive captain. Yes, sir. What type of responsibility does that give you knowing that this season that you're going to be a
05:21major factor
05:23In this team's defensive success. It's a big responsibility and I don't take it lightly
05:28You know, there's a lot of people from the front office fans
05:32Um, really everybody who's associated with the giants organization, you know expecting big things and i'm here to deliver
05:38now
05:39before you
05:40Last year was your first year of giants you played for the colts. Yeah, but you went to stanford and you played with uh,
05:45McCaffrey out there. Yes, sir
05:48The big 12 the pack 12. Yeah is
05:53Now gone axed. I mean to me that that's heartbreaking. I love I love the pack 12. I love I love all the conferences
06:01all the different conferences and now
06:04stanford's in the
06:06Atlantic coast conference. Yes, sir. Just just the other just like
06:12Ridiculousness of that just in my mind just I can't wrap my head around it
06:18Stanford the jewel of the pacific is now in the atlantic coast conference crazy
06:24What what do you think about that?
06:26You know r.i.p to pack 12 after dark, you know, I love those games there were some elite games, but i'm a night out
06:33Yeah, so like uh, so saturday night
06:35The 12 o'clock i'm putting on whatever channel put on that that pac-12 game. I remember there was what game was it ucla?
06:42I think was when they had josh rosen. Yeah, it was in like a shootout the final score was like 63 to 56
06:48I remember that I mean, it's like it's just like crazy games some iconic games in the pack. I mean I did
06:54I don't like I don't like seeing the old conferences broken up
06:58I know I mean, I think you know where we're headed now
07:01Everybody sees the business of football. So there's big tv contracts involved
07:05Coach is getting paid players getting nil. So, you know, I think it's just
07:10football in the ncaa or like
07:13I think you gotta almost make the football
07:16portion of the ncaa a different entity
07:18Because of how just how large college football is. Yeah, how much how large it is?
07:23The market of it how much money they're bringing in? Uh, that's a lot
07:27I mean i'm i'm excited for the season with the uh, the playoff. Yeah, but
07:33Of course, you know stanford and nordheim play every year
07:38But you're a big time nordheim guy, huh? Yes
07:44I mean, it's kind of a tradition here in new jersey in uh, new york, new jersey
07:47Yeah, if you don't have a college I went to a division. I went to a division three school. Yep
07:53And but what's funny is in college basketball I root for sweeten hall. Okay, see the hall doesn't have a football program
07:58Yeah, so we just gravitate to
08:01What we all know and that was always notre dame
08:04Notre dame's always had like, uh a good following in new york. Who's the local team like ruckers ruckers. Yep
08:10I mean
08:11They might be good this year ruckers. Yeah, but i've heard some good stuff about them. It's it's it's always been a notre dame
08:18Notre dame's always been like new york's team. Yeah, I feel that
08:22I mean being an indy shit. Notre dame was oh I can imagine indy's team, too
08:26Now, what was it like when you got we got to the colts? Yeah, and they they decided last year
08:32Okay, we don't have enough money for all these linebackers. Yeah, so you end up on the giants
08:37Uh, you know, it's an interesting process going through free agency
08:40You really get to understand how the cap space works how gms, uh their decision-making process
08:47um
08:48I mean you can love as many players as you want, but you can only pay so many so I mean that's always things
08:52Seems like yeah the issue
08:54In the in the nfl was compared to other sports. Yep
08:57it's a lot of times it's
08:59It's not if you want to keep a player if it's can you keep a player?
09:04And uh, is the cap space going to work out? That's that's one of the craziest things you have I think in the nfl
09:09Exactly. I mean it's it's it's not only it's not simple
09:12equation of like baseball
09:14Of uh, do we want the guy?
09:17Basketball they find ways around the cap football. It just seems like okay
09:22Is this a luxury item literally and then?
09:26I mean and that's what I think happened to take palm barkley
09:29unfortunately, I think
09:31They're asking can you afford the guy? Yeah, I think the I think the I think the the major problem is is what's
09:37What's happened with the running back position? It's not been
09:40It's been kind of bad. Yeah, it's been tough. I mean, but christian mccaffrey's a great example
09:46Yeah, he's a guy who can take you to uh,
09:49Superbowl game and can change games for you. And that's why he's getting paid what he's getting paid
09:54Now you had a great first year in new york. Yeah, what is it like playing in new york's?
10:00for the giants
10:01It's beautiful. I mean
10:04Me being a jersey new york city 15 minutes away
10:07Um, the city is bustling. Oh, it's thousands of people thousands hundreds of thousands of people out here the cars the energy
10:15It's exciting. So I mean there's no city like new york. There's no city like new york
10:18It's always been the great. I think the greatest city in the world. So if you're playing well in new york
10:24You know, you're having a great time now. It's gonna be a big year for the giants big year
10:28not just that uh
10:30That there's gonna be a lot of pressure to try to make the playoffs. Yep, but it's the 100th anniversary
10:35100th season in new york giants. Yeah, and uh
10:39Uh, let's have a taunt. You look like the
10:43You look like the montreal canadians with those jerseys. Oh, yeah now those jerseys actually were worn by the giants
10:49Around 1927. No, it's a it's a tribute to the to the ogs. Yeah, the first the first times
10:54Uh people don't realize how different football uniforms look like for real a hundred years ago
10:59I mean even the helmets it was probably a single bar
11:01No single bar with slender helmets back then that's crazy watch the uh
11:06Attaboy
11:08But yeah, I mean
11:11What do you think about those uniforms? I like them, you know, I I think they're different they'll pop out
11:16Um, especially if we're gonna dub in them week one, you know, it'll be great. I mean
11:21I know what the uniforms. What do you think about them?
11:24Do you know it's gonna be a unique uniform. I think it's gonna be
11:29I think it's gonna be remembered like the pittsburgh stealers bumblebees. All right
11:33Where it's like it's like, okay, these uniforms are probably left back in the past
11:47Yeah going to a giant going going to a giants game
11:52And uh, unfortunately, it wasn't a good game for you guys. So it was this he's an opener
11:57Yeah, and uh
11:59You feel like short memory. Yeah, you feel the the
12:02The class of the giants organization. Yeah of just just how professional their in-game experience is. Yeah
12:09Then you go to a jets game. I went to the uh, black friday game. Yes. I'm a miami dolphin fan
12:14and uh
12:15well
12:16They're they're playing loud random noises throughout the game and uh, and it's like like
12:23The they're playing no, they're like the song, uh sabotage. Yeah, no can't stand it can't send it they're playing this after like a
12:31a a loss of play and meanwhile referees out there clearly shows the flag clearly sees it's a it's a uh,
12:39Your face mask. Yeah, and it and it just like there's like obliviousness and they have these like random gifts
12:47On the uh scoreboard really like it's like it's like if you do a gift search in uh,
12:53Twitter, yeah, you just use those gifts
12:56that's what I mean, it's like the
12:58and it's like like a constant annoyingness
13:02and it's like
13:04So you're saying you like the giants experience better? Yeah, of course. All right respect respect
13:09Uh now I hear that you have a little some businesses already. I do I got one
13:14I got a uh a black car chauffeur service
13:18Uh, it's called presidential travel services. So
13:20We have drivers. We have escalades out in miami
13:23Uh, my business partner sarah singley runs it out there for me
13:27And yeah, you know, we try to provide people that luxury service in miami. Do you have like all these other?
13:33But it's helpful for my dolphins. Yep. I mean shoot them my way
13:37Shoot them my way
13:40Hey miami beautiful city beautiful city beautiful city great weather
13:44When it's not a hurricane out there, so
13:47Well, this time of year this time of year you're gonna get like you're in a sauna for real. It's hot
13:53but uh
13:54Do you feel it's important to have businesses like this to help?
13:59For sure. Yes, you know the football careers are so
14:03Short exactly compared to other sports and the average career is two and a half years. So
14:08Um as a player, you know
14:10The more you can build your off the field portfolio and try to set some stuff up get some stuff in motion when you're done playing
14:17Um, I know there's players like justin tuck who have been an absolute
14:23Just success story absolute stud. I mean truly a role model for anybody who would play the league
14:29I mean he came out he's retired. He's like become a big success big shot at goldman sachs. Yes big shot. So
14:37I look up to him. I saw him at the giants 100 dinner. Um, he's a classy guy
14:45But uh
14:55You can come here like come here come here
14:58Yeah
15:01Hey, how's it going? Yeah
15:04This is uh, bobby okara k or korekara k the uh giants. What's up, bro? You good?
15:15All right, frank
15:20I'm, sorry y'all be safe. All right
15:23Yeah
15:26All right, love
15:29I mean well, yes, sir
15:32I am a dolphin fan, of course, but you know my nfc team. Yep has always been the giants especially
15:38After the uh beat the patriots twice in the superbowl beat the bills in the superbowl. Yeah, I mean
15:45You you beat our rivals you saved you saved our legacy the giants
15:49Saved the dolphins legacy still the only unbeaten team. Thanks to the new york giants. Yes, sir
15:55So I am going to be definitely rooting for the giants in the nfc
