The host city for this year's Taiwan Lantern Festival, Taoyuan, is pulling out the stops, with Pokemon and AI among the features to expect at the annual event that closes out the Lunar New Year season.

00:03That's as the northern city prepares to host this year's Taiwan Lantern Festival.
00:08Each year, organizers select a different locale to hold the event.
00:11And for its turn, Taoyuan has decided that giant Pokémon,
00:14some up to 12 meters tall, are the best way to attract big crowds.
00:18Already there's significant interest,
00:20even though the festival's only just started its soft launch.
00:24Our Pokémon family has arrived at the Qingtang Garden.
00:27We can also find performances by circus troupes
00:30and other lights that we can interact with.
00:34And there's tech, too, to make sure the event goes smoothly.
00:38The city's environmental department is bringing in AI
00:41to ensure guests take care of their garbage.
00:43Because when it comes to litter, they've got to catch them all.
00:46We've set up an AI dual-module camera at the intersection,
00:54which can effectively enhance our detection and detection.
00:59The annual event officially opens on February 12th,
01:02the day of the Lantern Festival that closes the Lunar New Year season.
01:06And it runs through the 23rd,
01:08giving Taoyuan a chance to show off its charm.
