00:00I was doing a lot of drugs." Noah Centineo opens up about his sobriety journey.
00:05The actor stops by the Chicks in the Office podcast while promoting season two of his Netflix
00:09series, The Recruit. And the 28-year-old says that during the height of his To All the Boys fame,
00:14he was on a career high, but a health low. He tells Chicks in the Office hosts Rhea and Fran,
00:20I was so unhappy. I was like, I had, I was able to pay my bills for the first time. I was like
00:26completely financial, financially stable and secure. Um, I was working regularly, um,
00:35and I was doing a lot of drugs and not nothing like that. I wasn't doing anything crazy. I just
00:40was doing drugs a lot. Right. And, um, drinking like all the time, every day. And I was young,
00:48right? I was 20 years old and I'd been doing that for a couple of years. And so I had a career that
00:54I was proud of. I was making enough money to pay my rent and put a little bit away.
00:59And so you would think I should be super stoked and super happy. And I just wasn't.
01:04To All the Boys I've Loved Before was a super successful franchise for Netflix.
01:08And Noah, whose role is Peter Kavinsky, earned him official heartthrob status.
01:13On the podcast, Noah pinpoints the moment he realized he needed to make a change.
01:17One day I woke up and the world just looked different. Like it felt like it was the same
01:23world, but I was looking at it like something had kind of felt like something had broken a little
01:28bit and it scared me. And I just realized that I needed to, to dry out, sober up.
01:35And living a sober life was transformative for Noah in more ways than one.
01:39Taught me that sobriety or abstaining at certain points of your life can be like a superpower.
01:44You sleep better. You're more focused. You're more accountable. You hold yourself far more
01:50accountable. If you have to prepare for something, it's not like, it's not like you're hung over and
01:54you're tired or you can't really remember your lines because of it. Like you're, you know,
01:57you're hung over. You know, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta really confront things too.
02:03If you're not just drinking, right. If you're drinking, you don't have to really care about
02:06things. It's a good way to numb yourself or self-medicate. So you gotta confront things
02:11and then you have to find healthier ways to deal with those things.
