00:00Today we're looking around London Docklands, an area that was once the heart of the British
00:06maritime trade, but has since undergone an incredible transformation.
00:10In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Docklands were home to some of the busiest
00:15docks in the world, handling imports and exports from all over the globe.
00:19By the 1970s the docks were in decline and many factories and warehouses were abandoned.
00:24In the 1980s, the area was redeveloped as part of the London Docklands Development Corporation,
00:31leading to the creation of Canary Wharf and a major financial district.
00:35Today, London Docklands is home to modern skyscrapers, shopping centres and riverside
00:40apartments, offering a striking contrast to its industrial past.
00:44The nearest tube station is Canary Wharf, which is on the Jubilee line.
