A mother and her undergrad daughter claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh to three charges of stealing jewellery while providing house cleaning services.

46-year-old S. Wairavi, is accused of stealing a gold ring belonging to a 61-year-old man, while her 19-year-old daughter, C. Tharshini, faces two charges for stealing a gold choker necklace and a pair of gold earrings from a 17-year-old girl.

00:34The offences were allegedly committed at a residence in Taman Serimanga Section 1, Malacca-Tenga
00:40between December last year and January.
00:43The mother and daughter were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code and face a maximum
00:48of 10 years jail and a fine if found guilty.
00:52Deputy Public Prosecutor Hanis Alia Ahmad Kamarul Najweeb proposed bail of 15,000 ringgit
00:58for Wairavi and 8,000 ringgit for each of the charges faced by Tharshini.
01:04Both accused, who were unrepresented, pleaded for lower bail, citing that Wairavi is a single
01:10mother supporting four school-going children while Tharshini is a student at a private
01:15higher education institution.
01:18The court set bail at 10,000 ringgit for Wairavi and 10,000 ringgit for both charges
01:23for Tharshini and fixed March 17 for next mention.
