00:00The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too. We'll own it.
00:07Extraordinary comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, side-by-side with Israeli Prime
00:11Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, D.C. Netanyahu is in the U.S. for bilateral
00:17talks, despite a warrant for his arrest from the International Criminal Court over war
00:22crimes in Gaza.
00:24This is a testament to your friendship and support for the Jewish state and the Jewish
00:29people. I've said this before. I'll say it again. You are the greatest friend Israel
00:38has ever had in the White House.
00:43During the leaders' pivotal talks, Trump walked back from the former administration's commitment
00:47to supporting a two-state solution in Gaza, the U.S. leader instead proposing the permanent
00:55resettling of millions of displaced Palestinians elsewhere, calling the enclave a demolition
01:01site after nearly 16 months of war between Israel and Hamas.
01:05I mean, there's hardly a building standing, and the ones that are are going to collapse.
01:09You can't live in Gaza right now, and I think we need another location.
01:17Trump's saying the U.S. would redevelop the war-torn region, with neighboring countries
01:21taking in displaced Palestinians. That's despite Arab nations, including the U.S.'s regional
01:27allies Jordan and Egypt, already vehemently opposed to any forced relocation of Palestinians.
01:33Most certainly there's no plan behind this. And if there is, it's not a plan that has
01:39any connection to reality in today's Middle East, and certainly not in consultation with
01:45the Palestinians or neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan.
01:49While Trump's remarks were immediately rejected by Saudi Arabia and Palestinian leaders.
01:54Our homeland is our homeland. If part of it is destroyed, the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian
02:00people selected the choice to return to it. I think that we should be respecting the selections
02:08and the wishes of the Palestinian people.
02:14It comes at a crucial time during the ceasefire arrangement between Israel and Hamas. Post
02:21a soon-entry second phase, tens of Israeli hostages held by Hamas are expected to be
02:26released in return for hundreds of Palestinians detained in Israel.
02:32With Netanyahu in the U.S., protesters gathered in Tel Aviv, urging Trump to help secure the
02:37release of all the remaining hostages.
02:40We call on President Trump to pressure Netanyahu to avoid thwarting the deal, avoid spoiling
02:49the deal that's already started.
02:51Israel is sending a delegation to Qatar to discuss the continued truce, as Netanyahu
02:55prepares to meet with members of the U.S. military and Congress.
02:59But with Trump's new proposal for the future of Gaza drawing condemnation, the prospect
03:06of finding lasting peace is again uncertain.
