The plan by Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin to summon several individuals from the Transport Ministry could be politically motivated, says Anthony Loke.
Speaking at a press conference at the ministry’s headquarters on Wednesday (Feb 5), Loke addressed allegations of a RM500mil loss in the Employees Provident Fund's (EPF) share transaction involving Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB).
He expressed confusion over Mas Ermieyati’s statement, emphasising that his ministry had no involvement in the sale of MAHB shares.

00:00What do you think of the PM's statement that he will call on the YP to deal with the MHB issue and air traffic violations?
00:09Firstly, I think the PM must act fairly.
00:14The statement was made as if the issue was to be left to the Ministry of Transport.
00:22Firstly, the issue of selling and buying the MHB shares has nothing to do with the Ministry of Transport.
00:29He must understand the structure of the MHB.
00:32As if he is confused.
00:34I don't know if he doesn't understand or doesn't want to understand.
00:37The MHB is a listed company.
00:40It is not under the Ministry of Transport.
00:43The MHB is a GLC company
00:47where the government through the Ministry of Finance has a golden share in the MHB.
00:52But it is a public business company before this.
00:56So, the issue of equity in the MHB by the institutions, including Zana, EPF, etc.
01:03is managed by the fund managers in the institution.
01:08In the case mentioned, it refers to EPF.
01:13So, if you want to ask for an explanation, ask EPF.
01:16Because the sale and purchase of the shares is managed by the fund managers.
01:20It is not determined by the KSU, the Ministry of Transport.
01:23So, we don't have equity in the MHB.
01:26The MHB is a listed company.
01:29The Ministry of Transport is a regulator.
01:32The Ministry of Transport has an operating agreement with the MHB.
01:38So, we regulate it.
01:40We manage the MHB.
01:43And we don't have equity in the MHB.
01:46So, the issue of the sale and purchase of the shares,
01:49the loss in the sale of the shares,
01:52has nothing to do with the Ministry of Transport.
01:54So, I don't understand
01:56what they want to ask from us.
01:59Because the decision to sell, to buy the shares of the MHB
02:03is not under our jurisdiction.
02:05It is under the jurisdiction of the fund managers
02:08in their respective institutions.
02:10And secondly, whether it is a loss or not, let EPF explain.
02:14I don't think it is a loss.
02:17But let EPF explain.
02:20It is not my business to answer for EPF.
02:24So, it has nothing to do with the Ministry of Transport.
02:28So, I hope that the PSC regulators
02:31try to link this issue with the Ministry of Transport.
02:36I don't know if there is a political agenda or not.
02:38Coincidentally, the Minister of Transport is from the DAP.
02:42So, he wants to blame the DAP.
02:44Whatever the fault of the DAP.
02:46As I said, the PSC chairman must act fairly.
02:50And any decision by PSC should be by the committee.
02:54It should not be judged by the chairman.
02:56He can't just like to make statements.
02:59Is that a joint decision by the PSC regulators?
03:03The PSC regulators are not alone.
03:05Even though he is the regulator, he is not alone.
03:08He needs the PSC regulators to negotiate
03:11to determine the proceedings to be brought forward,
03:13the cases to be looked at, and so on.
03:16So, I don't know if that is a joint decision by the regulators.
03:21So, have you been summoned yet?
03:23No.
03:24No such thing as being summoned.
03:26If there is anything that the PSC wants us to explain,
03:30it needs to be negotiated officially with the Ministry of Transport.
03:34And we will see what scope he wants to ask and so on.
03:38If that is the case, we have the right to explain our position.
03:44So, if the position or scope that he wants to look at
03:47is not under our jurisdiction,
03:49we will write to the Speaker of the People's Council
03:52that this has nothing to do with the Ministry of Transport.
03:56So, in this case, it is very clear
03:59that I see there is a political agenda
04:01that needs to be brought forward by the PSC regulators.
