Nasser Djiga & Marshall Munetsi SIGN! Liam Keen and Nathan Judah Deadline Day analysis
Transcript
00:00It's me, Nathan Judah, full of the joys of spring, winter at the start of the day.
00:18Monday, 11pm, deadline day, didn't expect to go into Tuesday but we are, buzzing.
00:25Here's Keane, Wolves reporter. Yay, deadline day. Love it, don't we?
00:30Oh, Keane!
00:31What an intro!
00:32Keane, oh god, I'm so tired. 17 hours and going and it looks like it's going to be 18
00:39or 19. Yeah, interesting day, interesting day. Very Wolves-y, very Wolves-y indeed.
00:46Let's talk about the highlights. It took a long time for the highlights to be confirmed
00:50but two new signings through the door, both permanent deals, both on decent contracts
00:55as well.
00:56Yes, we're in the early hours. I mean, I officially was meant to be working at 2pm.
01:02Of course, I was on at about 9 o'clock this morning.
01:04I can see the sun coming up! The sun's bloody coming up in Dorridge.
01:08You've cut me halfway through my joke there. And obviously, you started at about 9pm, just
01:14to take all of the credit.
01:15Great banter, great banter.
01:16Just to take all the credit.
01:17I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, just stop chatting shit and I don't care. I've had enough of
01:23this time. We'll be on The Witching Hour. You can say profanities. It's past 9pm. I'm
01:27not having it. Get on with it. Talk to me about signings.
01:30The good news is, the good news is that Wolves have got two signings over the line on transfer
01:36deadline day. They made it a very exciting, god knows what you're doing there, they made
01:40it a very exciting deadline day for all of us. I mean, we knew all about the names very
01:45early on and then just sat around waiting for them to get done. But yes, let's start
01:50with the centre back. Wolf missed out on Kevin Danso. They desperately wanted a centre back.
01:55We reported on Sunday night, the day before deadline day, that Nasser Giger at Red Star
02:01Belgrade is one of the players that they were going to look at amongst a few. And he's the
02:06one that they moved for in the end. They had a £10m bid, roughly around £10m bid
02:13accepted by the Serbian side. And there was a little bit of drama because as, in a similar
02:21fashion to the Danso move falling through with Spurs hijacking it, Galatasaray, who
02:25we will be speaking about a few times in this video, attempted to come in and steal him
02:30away from Wolves. But the player, which has gone down very well with supporters, turned
02:35around and said, no, I want Wolves. I want the Premier League. He flew over to Paris.
02:39He met some of the Wolves chiefs. I love the commentary you're giving me. Some of the Wolves
02:44chiefs that, um, that flew over there to get work permits and medicals and the whole lot
02:48done, signed, sealed and delivered, um, five and a half year contract with a 12 month option
02:54done and dusted.
02:55You absolutely love to see it. Absolutely love to see it. Um, won, gone, in, a proper
03:02Wolves. Give me a number two, baby. Number two, um, also flew. I say flew, he wouldn't
03:08have flown because he was, he was only about two hours down the road. Um, in France, uh,
03:13Marshall Mnetsi, uh, if that's France currently, um, travels, uh, over to Paris as well. Got
03:20the medical done, work permits, the whole lot, roughly 50 million pound move, 28 year
03:25old defensive midfielder. And he's exactly what Vito Pereira was asking for. He's strong.
03:33He's physical.
03:34Big boy.
03:35Yeah, absolutely. Um, so Wolves is credit. It's taken them too long, a little bit too
03:41long to get it done. But with Agbadoo coming in previously with Kunja signing his contract
03:46and with these two players coming through the door, they've given Vito Pereira exactly
03:50what he wanted and they've invested enough money. Fosen have invested enough money. Jeff
03:56Shee and Matt Hobbs have got them over the line.
03:58No, but 40 million quid Liam.
03:59And they've given Vito Pereira what he asked for. And the pressure now is on the head coach
04:03and the players to go and perform and keep this, this great club in the premier league.
04:07Yeah. Um, look, it's, it's, it's good news overall. I think, I think, you know, I put
04:11a poll earlier on and said, what do you think of the window as a whole? Obviously you've
04:14got to bring Agbadoo into that as well. And the majority said, good, you know, not great,
04:18but good. Some people say, okay, but I think it's between good and okay. And realistically
04:23the proof will be in the pudding once it is, we will, we will only know that in three or
04:26four months time probably. Um, but I think that from where Wolves were, let's say a week
04:33ago. And as you say, couldn't you sign a new deal? And then these two players, a defender
04:37and a midfielder in there, both on loans and contracts. Remember we were talking about
04:41potential loan deals as well and options, but to get them signed, sealed and be Wolves
04:45players longterm, that's got to be a good thing.
04:48Absolutely. Yeah. Manetti for, I didn't mention it when speaking by him previously is a three
04:53and a half year contract with a year option on top of that as well. So they're both down
04:56to, to relatively long contracts, um, both on permanent, uh, moves, both pretty decent
05:03outlays alongside Agbadoo. And I think, you know, a few days can be a long time in football
05:08corner. You've got Agbadoo is the only signing. All of a sudden you beat Villa, can you sign
05:13a new contract and you bring two deadline day signings in. And it feels like a much
05:15better window. I think if I was to judge the window as a whole, I would say maybe seven
05:21and a half out of 10, maybe roughly. I think that's probably fair. It would be a little
05:25bit picky. We would say another forward would have been great, especially with Larson injured.
05:30Um, I think the, the, the timing of the signings could have been better because you are ideally
05:34would have wanted them earlier in the window, but Wolves are in a position where they needed
05:37a lot of dominoes to fall and they obviously missed out on Danzo and other players before
05:41moving to these players that they did get. So all of that combined, I think probably
05:45puts it roughly about that. And before that it would have been much lower. So it's worked
05:49out to be a pretty decent window overall, and they've been able to, to balance the squad
05:53with an outgoing as well. And, um, and I think they give Pereira and the squad a very good
05:58chance of staying in the Premier League. There's been investment, there's been players through
06:01the door. And when I look at Agbadoo, I think he's done very well. Um, it's especially recent
06:07weeks. Manezzi looks like a player at 28 who will be able to step into the Premier League
06:11straight away, whether he starts the first game, of course is yet to be seen, but I think
06:14he could step in straight away and play. Giga at 22, maybe we'll need a little bit
06:19of time to adapt. Doc and Agbadoo and Totti are probably going to start maybe the next
06:23couple of games, but it brings competition as another player for, uh, the future financial
06:29investment as well. So I think overall it's been a pretty decent window.
06:31Yeah. And both have their medicals in Paris today. You didn't think they were trying to
06:35pull the wool over there and saying, welcome to Wolverhampton boys. That large tower, the
06:41Amanda centre. Yeah. Very good. Very good. Very good shopping. Uh, yeah, look, good to
06:46see science field and delivered, um, even though it was a little bit later than we thought
06:49it was going to be. Um, okay. Uh, let's, let's go on to the exit then today or the main exit.
06:54I say today, um, Mario Lamina hasn't been confirmed as we record this at this moment
06:59in time, but all gone through two and a half million euro deal to Galatasaray. As you said,
07:03we're going to talk about that. Um, of course the Turkish window is still open, so there's
07:07no, there's no problems with that, that they can announce it whenever they want to announce
07:10it. But, you know, he was pictured in Turkey earlier on today. Um, that's gone through
07:14and probably best for all parties, Liam. I would have thought. Yeah, I think so. Yeah.
07:18As you say, two and a half million euros, roughly 2 million pounds, a little bit below
07:22wolves is valuation, but they got to the point where the Saudi Arabia move didn't go through
07:27before their window closed. Galatasaray showed some interest already with a loan option,
07:32which obviously within being out contract in the summer, albeit that 12 month option
07:35wasn't really going to work for wolves.
07:37It came back with some money less than what they wanted, but it was the means to an end.
07:42Really. They had to, um, for four parties for the meanest sake for his own head. I mean,
07:47he clearly had, um, was struggling when they want to be at wolves, uh, for the club moving
07:52forward for the dressing room, for the culture, for the atmosphere. Um, and forgetting a little
07:57bit of cash as well for players. I say out of contract, it seemed like the right move.
08:00As you say, the Turkish window closed on the 11th of February, uh, as the time of recording
08:06stopping announced by Galatasaray, we're expecting no issues and it will go through,
08:10um, without, without any, uh, without any fault. So that could be announced at any point
08:14could be Tuesday, Wednesday, whatever, but that should be, uh, no concern this morning.
08:18But I'll tell you what I'm not going for it, but no luck. I think it's for 18 months or
08:24so he was fantastic in a wolf shirt, had a six month spell this season where he really
08:29struggled then wanted to leave and down towards when the club were struggling. Um, he'll have
08:34reasons for that. I think it's poor still. I think he's let himself down at the same time.
08:39Um, look, as I say, I love his own reasons. I think it's more than anything. I think it's sad.
08:45I think it's a shame to end his career that way. And fortunately the club can move on now and
08:50hopefully stay in the premier league without having this sort of cloud hanging over them.
08:54Yeah. It's sad. It's also incredibly selfish for me, Liam, um, just completely, um, completely
09:00trounce any kind of goodwill that all songs will have towards him. Yes. He did have a great,
09:04a great spell, but at the same time, you know, you're not gonna be remembered fondly at all.
09:07Um, for the way that he down tools when the club needed in the most, so that's Mary Louie
09:10and gone and good riddance. Um, from my point of view anyway, uh, let's, let's talk about the deal
09:15that, um, was a shock deal this morning that from absolutely nowhere swap deal, including Craig
09:22Dawson and the return of, which got very people very, very excited. Wow. I haven't done that for
09:36a long time. Uh, Connor Cody, um, look, it made sense on quite a few levels, actually one that I
09:42don't think anyone saw coming, um, quite rightly because it didn't happen in the end, but from,
09:48from what we believed and obviously getting fans consensus, they thought it was a very smart deal.
09:52Actually, I thought it'd be a very smart deal for more of us. They couldn't get it over the line
09:56though. No. And similar to a lot of wolves fans, I'm disappointed that they weren't able to get
10:01it over the line because I think for all parties, for both clubs, for both players, I think it was
10:06a move that made a lot of sense. Dawson is clearly down the pecking order under Vito Pereira. Wolves
10:11are just starting to send it back as well. And he can go and play. Um, I would expect that he would
10:17have got some game time at Leicester. I mean, I'm struggling down there with wolves and I think he
10:22would have, he would have improved them to be honest. Um, whether that's a good thing from
10:26all this perspective or not, I don't know, but you'd, you'd improve less this backline. Thank
10:30you. Um, I, I think for him it would have made sense. Cody obviously isn't playing there at the
10:35moment as well. Um, for wolves to move a player on that wasn't playing and bring a player in that,
10:41let's be honest, he probably wouldn't have played a lot of games or a lot of minutes for wolves
10:44between now and the end of the season, but he would have done wonders for the culture,
10:48the dressing room, the atmosphere, um, a proper leader, a good character.
10:53I think that was a no brainer really. And if they could do it on a swap day, I think it would have
10:57been, would have been ideal for, for both clubs and for Cody. We believe he was very, very keen
11:02on that move. Um, and we'll be disappointed not to have made it. Um, and for Dawson, there was
11:08a possibility he could have gone elsewhere in this window, uh, on this final deadline day before,
11:14also after the, the, this move fell through, but in the end it came down to Lester. Lester
11:19didn't want to press ahead with it. Lester pulled out. It was very early negotiations at the,
11:24at the time and, um, and the deal got canceled and unfortunately all parties have to move on.
11:29Yeah. In terms of other moves, um, there's some peripheral moves, I guess, Liam,
11:34um, in terms of some of the younger players, a couple of loan deals, uh, and also the likes
11:38of Carlos Forbes, um, Tommy Doyle, who we talked about that they're both staying.
11:43Yeah. Doyle's sticking around. I think it makes, makes sense as well. I mean,
11:46it's gone out, be interesting what happens with him and because Troy or a belly guard
11:49as a midfield option. Now I think these are prayer. I can't complain that the lack of
11:54options, certainly, um, whether he trusts Doyle enough to play him in, in, in enough games is
12:00another thing. And I, I, I'm a fan of Tommy Doyle. I think he's a very good footballer,
12:03but it's clearly, um, not at the top of the pecking order under prayer in a midfield too.
12:08So that would be one to keep an arm, but he sticks around forwards. As you say, he wasn't,
12:13wasn't playing, hasn't impressed. Uh, unfortunately I wanted to go back to
12:17what I wanted him a little bit of cash for that deal, but weren't able to get a replacement in.
12:22Um, and that, that didn't come to fruition. So he sticks around to the end of the season.
12:26Uh, we'll see how his loan deal, um, you would expect that there's no chance he'll become
12:31permanent. Uh, he needs to play a lot of games between now and the end of the season. So that's
12:34not going to happen. Um, and then, yeah, a couple of the young lads Trey world was back on the
12:38bench for the villa game after his Derby loan, which didn't work out for him. I had a lot of
12:42injuries. Uh, only played six times for them. He goes to Huddersfield, um, on loan drops down
12:46at the trio, trio of wolves plays at Huddersfield and Nigel Longvick and Joe Hodge there as well,
12:51drops down into league one to get some game time. There's hopefully a much better spout for him in
12:55the second half of the season because he has got a lot of talent. Um, and then we've seen them
12:59basically keep them to go to, to Barnsley as well. A really disappointing move for him going
13:03to Switzerland. So hopefully back in England, um, back at a level he's played out and hopefully
13:08he can go out and, uh, and get some vital minutes. Yeah. Um, interesting one. Look, I think if we
13:14were to be greedy and picky, like you said earlier, it'd be nice to have maybe got a forward
13:17in there, um, with the way things are and just trying to last it down at this moment in time.
13:22But you look at that squad, Liam, you look at that squad that they've gotten between now and
13:26the end of the season, and that should be enough to stay in this premier league. I mean, I'm really,
13:30I'm confident about that. I'll run a poll tomorrow ahead of the podcast. I think that
13:34the majority of people will probably from about 25 or 30% thinking to stay up after this Aston
13:40Villa win after the deadline day that they've had, I'm pretty sure that this will be over 50% that
13:44they, that they think will stay in the league. And I w I would put it at 80, 20 at this moment
13:52in time, 90, 10. I'm not confident. I really am. The, these guys have shown they've got quality.
13:56They've added to that as well, um, with more quality and, you know, not only that, like you
14:02say, Perot's got a lot of options now and there's going to be some big players who are not, not
14:05going to be in match day squads, not going to be on the bench if everybody stays fit.
14:09Yeah, absolutely. I mean, someone like Dawson again, springs to mind instantly. Um, if everyone's
14:14fit, he might be struggling to find a place on the bench. Again, one of the midfielders possibly. Um,
14:19although I suppose Bellicard could be used as a forward option as well. So yeah, with everyone
14:23fit, you will have players out. Um, unfortunately as much as it's, it's never nice to see players
14:28drop out priority is wolves, uh, and particularly in a, in a, in a relegation battle and prayer.
14:37As I said, at the very top of this video, he's got what he wanted. The owners have invested
14:42enough to bring those players in. It's now down to you to do the business. He, this club in the
14:47premier league. Now I think he's shown and the players are showing there's enough quality there
14:52to do it at the same time. It's also going to be a big challenge. Um, they're going to have
14:55to step up to that challenge big time and hope that some of these players, you know, adapt very
15:02quickly to, to what is a difficult league to adapt to. But, um, I would have made a good start.
15:07Manetti, I think has got, um, capability of, of coming straight in with these sort of age
15:12experiences, physicality, and then it'd be interesting to see how he gets on. But yeah,
15:15I think they've, um, they've added in the areas they needed to, the squad's a bit more balanced.
15:19It's not perfect, but it's better. And they're in a much stronger position to,
15:23to hopefully go on and stay up.
15:49Premier League. Great concept.
15:54That's it. I'll tell you now. Oh God. Even the magic eight balls knackered. Is that enough?
15:59Can't do it. We'll see you all there for the water party on Thursday for me from Keno. Good
16:06night. Sleep well, because we need, we need a drink to take care. Bye-bye.
