00:00And so, Carlin, here's what I would say, as somebody who's reported on professional sports
00:05for a long time and considered, as far as baseball goes, to be an insider of some kind,
00:10I feel like I have good sense for this sort of stuff, Carlin.
00:13And I think that what you're saying in the end, I think, is accurate.
00:17But I truly do feel, and I've seen this play out before, the Russell Wilson trade comes
00:21to mind as well, I got to feel like the Mavericks know him better than anybody else.
00:26And for them to do this, I think jumping to conclusions, and again, I don't know how
00:30it's going to work out for the Mavericks, but jumping to conclusions to just assume
00:34that they don't know what they're doing, I think is super foolish, man.
00:37Like, I don't know.
00:38I feel like, eventually, a reporter in Dallas, Carlin, maybe a national reporter, it could
00:44be a year from now, it could be two years from now, I think a lot more is set to come
00:48out about why this deal was done.
00:51Maybe it'll be fed to a reporter in some way, it'll be off the record, I don't know.
00:55But I'm just not buying that the Mavericks just are silly, or a silly franchise and
01:00didn't know what they were doing.
01:01I think, personally, they felt like, in my opinion, that, like a thief in the night,
01:07you call one team, once you open up the door to everybody, and everyone starts wondering,
01:11what the heck's going on with this guy?
01:12Why would they want to trade him?
01:13I think they felt like this was the max that they could get.
01:15Maybe some people don't feel like it's a lot in Anthony Davis, but I think that something
01:19else happened here.
01:20Yeah, and there's two different things here, right?
01:23There's their public perception, and that's what I was just speaking on.
01:26Public perception is the Dallas Mavericks made a huge mistake going forward.
01:30And like I said, the only way to kind of change that, in most people's minds, is to go out
01:34and win an NBA title.
01:35If you want my honest opinion, I think the pressure here is on Luka Doncic.
01:39Luka Doncic was just sold to the Los Angeles Lakers for what many believe is less than
01:43what his actual value is.
01:45Luka Doncic is being told, like, hey, you were not good enough to win us a title here.
01:50Good luck over there.
01:51Luka Doncic was told, hey, you know, you've been able to get away with certain things
01:54here in Dallas that you might not be able to get away with in LA.
01:57And some of that is true, right?
01:58Dallas is not a small market, but it's not LA.
02:01LA is a national story, whether they're good or bad.
02:05And not just in the NBA, like when they transcend sports, like they're one of those franchises
02:09we talk about throughout sports.
02:11They're in the level of the Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys.
02:14That's where the Lakers are.
02:15We put them on a pedestal.
02:16So game 21, when Luka Doncic isn't playing defense, that is going to be a talking point.
02:22And that hasn't happened so far in his career.
02:24He's going to have to step up and prove to the Dallas Mavericks that they made a huge
02:27mistake by getting rid of him here.
02:30And the only way to do that is to really win a title.
02:32Because all the greats have done that in LA.
02:34You talk about Shaq.
02:35You talk about Kobe.
02:36You go back even further.
02:37Magic Kareem.
02:38Anyone that has ever worn a Laker uniform that has been considered an all-time great
02:43has been able to win a championship, and that includes LeBron James, who is now his teammate.
02:46So championship or bust really right now for Luka Doncic, and a guy who started the
02:52last two seasons as a favorite to win the MVP, has not yet gotten an MVP, that's not
02:57going to be good enough in LA.
02:58You've got to maximize that potential and deliver, and it starts now.
03:03The minute he starts, it steps foot on the court whenever he does come back from injury.
