00:00Mount Canlaon's rapid swelling, frequency of volcanic earthquakes, and discharge of ash may be symptomatic of a telltale sign of a more powerful eruption in the near future.
00:11Still, DOST chief and former Phoenix head, Honcho Renato Solidum, cites not ruling of a stronger volcanic discharge or major eruption is to keep residents living near or on the volcano to be prepped and ready to go in the event.
00:24Our Rod Lagusa tells us more.
00:26Canlaon volcano has erupted again, spewing ash.
00:32In this PHEBOX timelapse footage, the ash emission is clear from near and far.
00:36According to PHEBOX, ash emissions were recorded from around 5pm to about 7.30pm yesterday, and again earlier this morning, around 8am.
00:45With this, the ash plume reached a height of 400 meters.
00:48Overall, seven ash emissions were recorded from yesterday to this morning.
00:52This is what happens in Volcano Canlaon, ash is spewing, along with its eruptive activity.
00:59It's about to erupt.
01:00But our alert level is higher due to the more dangerous eruption of the volcano.
01:08Currently, the volcano remains at alert level 3, hence the fair chances or possibility of an eruption, according to Solidum.
01:15Likewise, other parameters are being monitored, such as rapid swelling of the volcano, and stronger eruptions or volcanic discharges.
01:22Also included are volcanic earthquakes that indicate that magma is rising.
01:26We're looking at what's happening below.
01:29Because the alert level is higher than the next possible event.
01:34So the ash plume, off and on, is not yet a sign.
01:41If the escalation is big, and there's a lot of ash spilling, we might be able to see what the proper alert level is.
01:49According to Solidum, the volcanic activity that started last year is considered stronger than its previous eruptions.
01:55From PTV Manila, Rod Leguced, Balitang Pampansa.
