00:00Mount Canloan's rumbling and recent activities have put both volcanologists and the public on edge.
00:06Over the last several days, Canloan has discharged an average of 66,000 tons of highly toxic sulfur dioxide
00:14into the atmosphere and raising the alert to level 4.
00:17PTV's Roy Lagusa discusses the three options PHIVOX authorities are likely to adopt over the coming days.
00:23PHIVOX has not yet ruled out the possibility of elevating the alert level for Canloan volcano to level 4
00:32following the recent volcanic activity in the past few days, including on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
00:54In this situation, the danger zone may be expanded up to 10 kilometers or more.
00:58Canloan volcano is currently at alert level 3, which means a hazardous eruption is possible within weeks.
01:04According to PHIVOX, in the last 24 hours, two ash emissions were recorded, with the highest reaching 400 meters.
01:1020 volcanic earthquakes were also documented.
01:13More than 6,000 tons per day of sulfur dioxide were recorded yesterday, which is higher compared to December 24.
01:19Bacol Col explains that there are three possible scenarios being considered.
01:23First, magma might rise slowly and flow out of the volcano's crater, which would take longer but cause less damage.
01:30Second, magma could rise quickly, possibly leading to an explosive eruption,
01:34where there will be a possibility of pyroclastic density current raising the danger level.
01:39Third, volcanic activity could cease and the alert level may be lowered.
01:49According to data from the Office of the Civil Defense as of December 26,
02:17nearly 12,000 families have been affected by the eruption of the volcano.
02:21Currently, more than 4,000 families are staying in evacuation centers.
02:25From PTB Manila, Rod Laguzad, Balitang Pambansa.
