00:14said they are taking the difficult decision to close with the current economic climate, increased running costs and poor trading conditions all factors in their decision.
00:24Worksworth Heritage Centre has been an independent museum for 40 years.
00:28It houses a unique local collection focusing on the history of the town and its inhabitants, as well as a popular café, shop and hosted events and activities.
00:37In order to secure the future of their collection, the trustees are appealing to local businesses, groups, philanthropists and individuals to come forward
00:46and they are working to keep the collection, the Worksworth story in the town in the long term.
00:51The trustees said they wanted to thank the staff, volunteers, members, customers and grant funders for their support over the years,
00:58especially the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which played a major role in establishing the museum and its current location,
01:04saving a historic building and providing ongoing grant support.
01:10A Chesterfield town centre route will remain shut to vehicles for several weeks after the council extended its closure, while pedestrian access will be maintained.
01:19Chesterfield Borough Council has confirmed that High Street will remain closed to vehicles for several weeks,
01:24with works along the route set to be completed by February 21st.
01:28A council spokesperson said,
01:30We are extending the closure of High Street to allow for additional works, including the installation of new underground ducting.
01:37The road remains open for pedestrian access.
01:40Originally scheduled for later in 2025, we have brought forward this work to reduce the disruption later in the year.
01:47The road is expected to reopen by February 21st and businesses have been informed of the update.
