00:00Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has urged Malaysia to join forces with Canada, Mexico

00:07and China to oppose the tariffs imposed by newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump.

00:13Lim said tariffs posed a threat to sustainable economic growth and could cause global inflation.

00:20The Mayan MP said while Malaysia was not directly targeted by Trump's tariffs, the country

00:24would still face indirect repercussions.

00:27He said any impact on China's economy would inevitably affect Malaysia, as China had been

00:32Malaysia's largest trading partner for the past 15 years.

00:37Last week, Trump said Canadian and Mexican exports to the U.S. would face a 25 percent

00:42tariff, while goods from China would see an additional 10 percent tariff.

00:46To mitigate the impact of these tariffs, Lim urged the government to delay the implementation

00:51of the luxury goods tax and postpone targeted subsidies for RON95 to avoid floating its

00:56price on the market.
