00:00Hello everybody, how we doing? I tell you, it's not very often you get me fresh on a Sunday
00:04and I was thinking to myself there, maybe I would have been better off self-indulging last night
00:09after watching that horror show. Newcastle United made it, back to back defeats up here,
00:14St James' Park in the Premier League, getting beat 2-1 up Fulham and I was going to start the
00:18video by talking about that but the breaking news is Lloyd Kelly, all the focus, all the
00:23noise is on Lloyd Kelly right now. So it's kicked yesterday's result into the history books at least
00:29for the time being and we're going to talk about this transfer. So Lloyd Kelly, yeah, it's how I
00:34understand it, he's on his way to the event, it's £20 million free, it's going to be an initial
00:40loan move, you know, and you've got to say that Paul Mitchell there, he's come under a little bit
00:46of fire during his time at Thameside so far, you've got to say that's a cracking piece of
00:50business if we can get that over the line. Lloyd Kelly, yes, he's a solid Premier League player,
00:55he arrived last summer on a free transfer from Bournemouth, one of Eddie Howe's
00:59protégés, he was the person who signed him, took him to Bournemouth in the first place
01:05and he was the only notable signing of last summer's transfer window. Yes, the
01:11Lewis Hall deal got made permanent but other than that, you know, you were looking at John
01:16Ruddy and Vlaka Dimos, Lloyd Kelly was the only player who, before ball had been kicked this season,
01:21you were looking at and thinking, yeah, he could probably get in the first team and
01:26it wasn't a big transfer, you know, it wasn't a big fee, he arrived on a free transfer from
01:30Bournemouth and it was hardly a signing that was going to get support as clamouring for the new
01:35season. Just four Premier League starts late and it looks like he's already out the door for
01:39another team of black and white. It was that Italian transfer guru yesterday, Fabrizio Romano,
01:45he was the one who spilled the beans, all the noise coming from the event at the deal was close
01:49but as far as Newcastle was concerned, it was all a little bit tight-lipped, you know, not much was
01:53getting said but then yes, today, all the noises are suggesting from the Newcastle's end that Lloyd
01:59Kelly is going to be on the move. Initially on loan and then that £20 million will go, it's an
02:05obligation to buy, that'll go straight into Newcastle's summer transfer kitty and you've got
02:09to say hats off to Paul Mitchell when he first arrived last summer on Sporting Direct. He's
02:14come under a little bit of criticism, you know, he was the new kid on the block, the PSR situation
02:20was tight and everything's been focused around outgoings, especially in this January window and
02:26he's been tasked with the job, try and squeeze every single penny out of every single deal as
02:31possible and you've got to say he's passed the test with flying colours, you know, Miguel Almiron,
02:37£11 million to Atlanta and now £20 million for Lloyd Kelly. This comes back to Newcastle's sort
02:44of transfer strategy overall, you look at clubs like Man City and Chelsea, their player trading,
02:52the amount of money that they can generate from their youth academy and, you know, selling
02:58players and just that whole PSR manoeuvring, you know, you saw a little bit of it with Newcastle
03:04last year with the Vlacademos deal and the Elliot Anderson deal. Newcastle with Jankuba Mint here,
03:11buying him for £7 million, flipping him for £33 million, now Lloyd Kelly, a free transfer,
03:16Juventus could have had him for nought last summer, six months down the lane, appearing £20 million,
03:21it's going to be a year down the lane, appearing £20 million, he's barely kicked the ball for
03:24Newcastle, just four Premier League appearances, you've got to say it's a very, very shrewd
03:30business, but everybody's going to be questioning now on, everybody's going to be thinking,
03:34oh there's somebody coming in, Newcastle need a player, you know, they're looking really late
03:39of options, especially up front on the bench, going back to that Fulham game yesterday,
03:45you know, you're thinking 65-70 minutes, the scoreline was 1-1, where's the options from
03:50the bench, you had young Willa Sula there, you had Almiron there a week earlier, he's now gone,
03:56Newcastle are crying out for a right winger, but the noises as it stands, I hate to be the bearer
04:02of bad news, seems like Newcastle are thinking long term here, yeah, they're all wary that,
04:09they were in a tricky PSR situation last summer, I don't want to use the word scarred,
04:13but it's definitely playing into their thinking a little bit this time around,
04:18and with the long term vision in mind, a few weeks down the line, you've got Callum Wilson
04:23coming back, I know, the eye is laughing, he's probably getting injured again or whatever, but
04:28that is a reality, he is scheduled to come back, Harvey Bourne is scheduled to come back,
04:32and that would give Newcastle some firepower in reserve at least, at least until the end
04:36of the season, I wouldn't expect any knee jerk reactions from Newcastle just off the back of a
04:41couple of home defeats, so yeah, Lloyd Kelly, that's the big talking point, how do you view
04:47the deal Alf, I've got a feeling this one's going to be overwhelmingly positive, especially with the
04:54fee paid, what he's sort of contributed to the club in such little time, and then the fee received,
04:59so yeah, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
