00:00We really do not know.
00:02It's despite Prime Minister Bento Netanyahu's claim,
00:06even as he was boarding the plane,
00:08that not only do his interests and that of President Trump
00:12mesh, but that they have a personal chemistry,
00:14that they're old friends.
00:16The truth is, this is a new administration.
00:20Donald Trump has shifted his interests, it appears, somewhat.
00:24And we just don't know.
00:25What we are beginning to understand
00:28is what Prime Minister Netanyahu hopes to get out
00:32of this visit to the White House.
00:35He's very proud that he's the first foreign leader
00:38to visit Donald Trump in the second term.
00:40Late last night, and with no significant announcement,
00:45Prime Minister Netanyahu canceled the planned negotiation
00:52that was supposed to take place today
00:54between Israel's negotiation team and that of Hamas
00:58in Doha, in the capital of Qatar.
01:01He then announced that he was basically
01:03firing the head of Israel's ceasefire negotiation team,
01:07that is, the head of the Mossad, David Barnea,
01:10who has led this entire period,
01:13long period of months of negotiation,
01:15to replace him with Ron Dermer.
01:18Ron Dermer's nickname in Israel is BB's Brain.
01:22Officially, he is a minister for strategic achievements,
01:28but in reality, he is Prime Minister Netanyahu's
01:32right-hand man, and Netanyahu is now placing him
01:35atop this negotiation team and has taken him
01:38to Washington, D.C., apparently in the hope
01:43that Israel will successfully be able to persuade
01:46the United States not to complete this three-phase plan,
01:52three-phase ceasefire agreement,
01:53but to allow Israel to return to war.
01:56We were told this very openly by one
01:59of Netanyahu's legislative allies,
02:01the Likud Knesset member, Chanokh Milvitsky,
02:05who, on a radio program earlier today,
02:09said the aim of Prime Minister Netanyahu's trip
02:12to Washington is a return to war.
02:16As you can imagine, these events behind the scenes
02:19of this trip have aroused huge anxiety,
02:23huge concern, major worries among Israelis in general,
02:28but especially among the hostages' families
02:31who have sent their own delegation,
02:33their own representatives to Washington
02:35to try and meet themselves with Trump officials
02:39and oppose what they understand
02:42the Israeli Prime Minister is trying to get done
02:44in the United States this week.
02:47Now, we've just heard also that a criminal probe
02:50is being launched into Benjamin Netanyahu's wife.
02:53What more can you tell us about that?
02:59Right, Mrs. Netanyahu has already been convicted
03:03at least once of abusing employees of state.
03:07She has been indicted several times.
03:10She somehow has quite a trajectory,
03:12and she was almost indicted, very closely,
03:16but not in the Prime Minister's own corruption trial.
03:21By the way, he had to specially request a week off
03:24from trial in order to fly to Washington, D.C. this week.
03:28Mrs. Netanyahu, very mysteriously,
03:30has been in Miami for the last two and a half months now.
03:35There are rumors she may return to Israel with her husband,
03:38but today's announcement by the prosecutors
03:40that following a television investigation
03:43into, again, her malfeasance with state funds
03:47and state employees, that they're opening
03:49a formal criminal investigation,
03:51that we're all watching to see
03:53if that may end up changing her plans.
