00:00In the next week, it's Valentine's Day, Ivan, do you have plans?
00:07No, I don't know, it's already next week.
00:10I still have a week to prepare.
00:13The authorities are warning the public this love month
00:19to avoid falling in love with the wrong person because it might be a love scammer.
00:24Just like the case of a French woman who lost a million pesos because she fell in love with Brad Pitt.
00:33Just kidding, it's Brad Pitt.
00:35Darlene Cai has the story.
00:40Who wouldn't fall in love if you chat with Brad Pitt?
00:43He'll send you a picture and say I love you and other sweet messages.
00:48She's the one who fell in love with a French woman for a year and a half
00:52until she was convinced that Brad had cancer so she needed money for treatment.
00:57But she fell in love not with Brad Pitt but with deepfake Brad.
01:03Not only the heart of the victim was stolen,
01:06if not, her money is in the US$850,000 or more than 49 million pesos.
01:12The French authorities are investigating the incident.
01:15The camp of the real Brad Pitt reminded that the actor is not active on social media
01:19so don't answer the messages you receive online.
01:23This love month, the reminder of the authorities,
01:26don't let your heart fall in love because it might be a victim of a love scam
01:30that could increase the number on Valentine's Day.
01:33We've been monitoring since January.
01:37We have preventive measures already pre-empting the possible surge of love scams.
01:48For some reason, whenever there's an increase, it's normal.
01:56Love scams are among those operated by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission.
02:02Their mode of arresting is to lure the victim to a scammer
02:06before convincing her to invest in cryptocurrency.
02:09When they see a profile that fits their possible victim,
02:15they will send it to their marketing group.
02:19That's the one that does the hard sell.
02:21They will show models there.
02:23When they convince the Australian to invest, they will let them go suddenly.
02:30The Australian Federal Police and the Philippine authorities, like the NBI,
02:34are always on the lookout for love scams.
02:37In a raid in Paok in October 2024,
02:40they found out that 5,000 phone numbers in Australia are the number of victims.
02:45The authorities repeatedly remind people to be careful with the people they talk to online.
02:49If it's too good to be true, it probably is.
02:52If something is almost unbelievable, don't believe it.
02:58Most importantly, don't send money or personal information to people you meet online.
03:06Aside from investigating and tracking the perpetrators of these operations,
03:10the CICC and other agencies also plan to help the public to know about deepfakes.
03:28We will help the public determine if the content they see is fictitious or not.
03:34For GMA Integrated News, Darlene Cai, Nakatutok, 24 Horas.
