00:12The 20-year-old wood pusher Daniel Maravilla Quezon marks a historical achievement after being hailed as the 17th Filipino Grandmaster after almost 14 years.
00:23Quezon achieved his long-awaited GM title in 2024 after defeating GM Igor Ifimov of Monaco to reach an ELO rating of 2,500 at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad.
00:35Because of this success, Quezon was one of the major awardees at the recent Philippine Sports Writers Association or PSA Awards.
00:43Quezon shared that he has a bigger mission this year after obtaining the title of GM.
00:49Next month, I have a tournament in Indonesia. It's an invitational tournament.
00:55My goal there is to raise my rating because my next goal is to be the GM of the Super Grandmaster.
01:03My goal now is to have a rating of 2,600 to be the Super Grandmaster.
01:09Unlike my previous training, it's harder now. I have more training time.
01:17According to Quezon, he is also open to the possibility of playing again for the national team at the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
