Kennedy accused of 'misleading' vaccine arguments by Republican senator

Robert F. Kennedy Jr, President Donald Trump's pick to run the top US health agency, argues on Jan. 30, 2025 that his views on vaccines were misrepresented in a charged Senate Health committee hearing, with the top Republican saying he had reservations about the nominee's 'misleading arguments Kennedy said that vaccines were linked to autism, and he opposed state and federal restrictions imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The causes of autism are unclear, though theories that childhood vaccines cause autism have been widely debunked and are contrary to scientific evidence.

00:00So, your past of undermining confidence in vaccines with unfounding or misleading arguments
00:07concerns me.
00:09Can I trust that that is now in the past?
00:13Can data and information change your opinion, or will you only look for data supporting
00:18a predetermined conclusion?
00:20You gotta follow it, man.
00:21There's a lot of people that look to you for, do I get vaccinated or not?
00:28People that I kind of know.
00:30I'm going to be an advocate for a strong science.
00:34You show me those scientific studies, and you and I can meet about it.
00:40And there are other studies as well, and I'd love to show those to you.
00:46Does a 70-year-old man, 71-year-old man who spent decades criticizing vaccines, and who's
00:52financially vested in finding fault with vaccines, can he change his attitudes and approach now
00:58that he'll have the most important position influencing vaccine policy in the United States?
01:08Will you continue what you have been, or will you overturn a new leaf at age 70?
01:14I recognize, man, if you come out unequivocally, vaccines are safe, it does not cause autism,
01:21that would have an incredible impact.
01:24That's your power.
01:27So what's it going to be?
01:29Will it be using the credibility to support lots of articles, or will it be using credibility
01:35to undermine?
01:38And I gotta figure that out for my vote.
01:41So that's my dilemma, man.
01:43And you may be hearing from me over the weekend.
01:45You may be hearing from me over the weekend.
01:47I once again thank you for your time.
01:50There's many times I've been wrong about science.
01:52If you look at my Instagram account, when I'm wrong, I apologize for it.
01:57I say I was wrong.
01:58I don't have any problem.
02:01Science is a process of challenging hypotheses with new evidence.
02:07Were the scientists who told us that the COVID vaccine was imperative, and President Trump
02:12who told us that it was this great thing, were they right, or were you right?
02:17Was the vaccine, COVID vaccine, successful in saving millions of lives?
02:22I don't know.
02:23We don't have a good surveillance system, unfortunately.
02:25You don't know?
02:27I don't think anybody can say that.
02:29If you show me science, it says that.
02:31But you know, Bob, you say, if I show you, you're applying for the job.
02:34I mean, clearly, you should know this.
02:37And that is, the scientific community has established that, that COVID vaccine saved
02:43millions of lives.
02:44And you're casting doubt.
02:45Finally, I want to ask you, you said you were on a show on February 26, 2021, an interview
02:54with Dr. Judy Mikovits, where you said the following, and I quote,
02:59We should not be giving black people the same vaccine schedule that's given to whites, because
03:06their immune system is better than ours.
03:10Can you please explain what you meant?
03:12There's a series of studies, I think most of them by Poland, that show that to particular
03:20antigens that blacks have a much stronger reaction.
03:25There's differences in reaction to different products by different races.
03:29So I have 17 seconds, let me just ask you then.
03:31So what different vaccine schedule would you say I should have received?
03:37What different vaccine schedule should I have received?
03:40I mean, the Poland article suggests that blacks need fewer antigens.
03:48This is so dangerous.
03:50Mr. Kennedy, with all due respect, that is so dangerous.
03:54Your voice would be a voice that parents would listen to.
03:57That is so dangerous.
03:58I will be voting against your nomination because your views are dangerous to our state and
04:03to our country.
04:04I mean, do you think science is dangerous, Senator?
04:08It's like we're moving the chairs on the Titanic.
04:11The ship is sinking.
04:14We need to refocus if we're going to save our country with this is existential.
04:20Our country is not going to be destroyed because we get the marginal tax rate wrong.
04:25It is going to be destroyed if we get this issue wrong.
04:28And I am in a unique position to be able to stop this epidemic.
