Gusty snow led to warnings and advisories across much of the Northeast on Jan. 29.
Transcript
00:00So lingering winter weather in the Northeast continues to be our top story.
00:03At the moment we've been watching these rounds of snow across the Great Lakes
00:06throughout the day. Big slow-motion flakes here in State College PA and
00:11drivers need to stay on top of this remain watchful for areas of slippery
00:15travel and reduce visibility with additional rounds of snow showers and
00:17heavy squalls sweeping across the region. Then the same storm that brought needed
00:22rain to Southern California is moving and some of the same areas in the south
00:25that were just hit with snow last week now face flooding downpours in severe
00:30weather to close out the month. All details on that coming up but first
00:34let's take you to a live view of Buffalo New York a city that is very familiar
00:37with snow. Looks like we're not seeing a lot of it right now a few flakes flying
00:41past the camera every couple seconds here though. Yeah I think if if not for
00:45that the lighting there on that camera we probably wouldn't even notice them as
00:49much there. We are watching the snow squall warnings be issued now in upstate
00:54New York still and a little sliver of extreme northeast Pennsylvania. This is a
00:58continuation of that same snow squall that had sparked about 45 minutes ago a
01:04snow squall warning for Binghamton. So as we pick this story line up here the most
01:08recent additional issuance here this snow squall warning now is for eastern
01:13parts of Broome County from Binghamton East until 645. Most of southern
01:17Delaware County of New York State that includes much of the Catskills parts of
01:21I-86 and then also a little bit of far northern Wayne County in PA extreme
01:26northeastern corner of the Commonwealth of PA that snow squall warnings in
01:29effect until 645 and at this moment this is a very fresh snow squall warning. The
01:34leading edge of this is just in the northwestern part of the polygon but
01:39we're gonna be tracking this in another 15 minutes or so we'll take another look
01:43at this on radar as this continues to march right down I-86 and again just be
01:48aware I-86 is an interstate that really zigzags through the Catskills and some
01:54the area near the upper Delaware River Basin so this is an interstate compared
01:58to others that is a little more dangerous when you get that slick
02:02activity and low visibility so a lot can go wrong with those tight turns and so
02:06forth take it easy on I-86 avoid travel in that area if you can over the next
02:11hour. Heading farther south and west you can see a band of snow rolling south
02:15into Huntington County Blair County Altoona PA seeing some of that heading
02:19up to the northwest you'll notice there's kind of a muted lake effect
02:22event here in areas near Chautauqua County and Erie PA partly because Lake
02:26Erie is now 80 foot plus percent covered in ice and most of the lake has iced
02:31over. The snow alerts winter storm warnings continue for some winter
02:34weather advisories for others into areas around Warren County of PA east into
02:39Potter County overall many areas one to three inches of snow in effect here some
02:43of this has already fallen this morning in Boston as we wrap up this event it's
02:46cold out there 16 in Burlington still 61 though into Virginia Beach and we are
02:51windy as well with some of the wind advisories ending others will continue
02:55and Anna our next big storyline after a chilly and somewhat quieter Thursday
03:00this next storm comes in and beware a little bit of ice on the leading edge of
03:04this in the Poconos upstate New York and then the rain takes over for most of us
03:08with snow holding on north of interstate 90
