00:00Americans continue to need nurses, according to the group of Filipino nurses in America.
00:06But some Filipinos who want to work there are worried
00:09because of the U.S. restrictions against illegal immigrants.
00:13J.P. Soriano reports.
00:19The new nursing graduates, Bianca and Frances, are planning to work in the U.S.
00:26Aside from the fact that they have relatives who work there,
00:29many healthcare workers in the U.S. need nurses.
00:33They want to work here in the Philippines.
00:37There are push and pull factors that pushes nurses to really go abroad.
00:42Poor work conditions, low wages,
00:45and then you'll grow professionally once you go outside of the country.
00:51However, they are afraid of being affected by the new police force.
00:55I think it will be harder for us to work or apply there
01:00since I feel like they will be more strict in the way they will hire workers from other countries.
01:09Formerly known as the U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines, Mary Kay Krautzon,
01:14said that the U.S. respects the Filipino nurses who helped and sacrificed during the pandemic.
01:22Filipino healthcare workers in the U.S. are resilient, hardworking, and kind.
01:28And the Trump Administration recognizes this.
01:32According to the Philippine Nurses Association of America, or PNAA,
01:36the Philippine government can leverage the growing need of the U.S. for healthcare workers.
01:44We're compassionate, we're well-trained, very knowledgeable in the clinical aspects.
01:51Nursing is not just about the technology, it's also about the human caring touch.
01:56Not to brag, but the Filipinos are very great nurses.
02:03Despite the worry, I think they still need us, possibly.
02:09At present, there are 200,000 Filipino nurses in the U.S.,
02:13which is equivalent to 4% of the 5 million nurses there.
02:18The U.S. has already begun to remove all illegal immigrants
02:23in accordance with the orders of U.S. President Donald Trump.
02:26Despite the 16 undocumented Filipinos there who were forced to be deported to the country,
02:33to help the Filipinos who may be deported from the U.S.,
02:36President Bongbong Marcos already has a directive to give them a new livelihood.
02:42Labor Secretary Bienvenido La Guzman said that
02:45in my career organized by DOLE and an employment website,
02:51President Bongbong Marcos also went there and changed the government's policy
02:57on unemployment rate and quality jobs for Filipinos.
03:02Whatever job they hold, it should be called a quality job
03:09that has the potential to be promoted, to be better,
03:17or if not, to build their own business.
03:20DOLE plans to hold a two-day job fair every month,
03:24which will bring in P18,000,
03:27including more than 100 former POGO workers who lost their jobs due to the closure of POGO.
