00:00Adolescent Pregnancy and HIV-AIDS are also increasing in Comprehensive Sexuality Education.

00:07These are some of the discussions in the Senate hearing today.

00:11Daniel Manalasta was at the center of the news. Daniel?

00:15Today, the Senate Committee on Basic Education heard that the number of adolescent pregnancies is increasing

00:22and the implementation of Department Order 31 of the Department of Education.

00:27In today's discussion, we will talk about Comprehensive Sexuality Education.

00:32Senator Riza Conteveros clarified a few things in detail about the program.

00:38Does the CSE program teach 0-4-year-old children about *** or what about ***?

00:51Is that taught in our schools?

00:54There's nowhere in our curriculum that teaches these things to learners between 0-4.

01:00We don't cover that because our learners start at 5 years old in DEPED.

01:08Conteveros also asked if the DEPED is violating the CSE, the right of parents to their children.

01:16The DEPED said no.

01:19That's far from the truth.

01:22In fact, the CSE is supplementary. It's not meant to supplant or override the parental authority of the parents over their children.

01:30It's just a support.

01:35The Department of Health issued a few data regarding the adolescent birth rate,

01:39where how many children are born between 15 to 19 years old.

01:45According to the DOH, it's up to the children who are in the adolescent age because the body is not ready.

01:51It's not up to the age.

02:22Aside from the teenage pregnancy, the DOH also divided the alarming number to HIV-AIDS,

02:32where up to 47% of new infections are from the age of 15 to 24 years old.

02:42Our young people with early HIV-AIDS have a higher risk of HIV-related diseases and it's harder for them to get HIV-related services.

02:53According to our data, on average, our young people with HIV-related diseases have HIV when they are 16 years old.

03:04They use condoms first when they are 17 years old.

03:10Why? That's what we need to look into.
