US President Donald Trump's administration instructed the Pentagon to release the hold imposed by the Biden administration on the supply of 2,000-pound MK-84 bombs to Israel. As many as 1,800 MK-84 bombs, also called "bunker bombs" due to their capability to peer through the concrete bunkers, will reportedly be shipped off to Israel in the coming days. The massive bombs have been held in storage since May 2024, when previous US President Biden decided to hold off on delivery out of concern Israel would cause significant civilian devastation by unleashing the weapons in the densely populated Rafah area of Gaza. The US previously delivered about 14,000 of these bombs between October 2023 and May 2024. The US has long been criticised for providing support to Israel amid the war in Gaza, where more than 47,000 people, mostly women and children, have been killed during the fifteen-month-long.
