In Adelaide, thousands took part in a Survival Day rally in Victoria Square to highlight the impact of colonisation. Others made the most of the scorching Summer weather, celebrating with a dip at the beach, while fireworks and performances will mark the occasion in Elder Park tonight.

00:07It's a way of starting in a very ceremonial way that honours our First Nations stories

00:14In Adelaide's Elder Park, hundreds, including Premier Peter Malinowskis, took part in Morning
00:20in the Morning, hearing from First Nations speakers and musicians.
00:29Aboriginal language worker Carina Lester spoke about the importance of keeping Indigenous
00:33languages alive and in moving forward in closing the gap.
00:37It's important for us all Australians to get together and to hear the important issues
00:42that are happening for us and closing the gap target is a big agenda for the nation.
00:49In Victoria Square, thousands gathered for Adelaide's Survival Day Rally, marching along
00:53King William Street.

00:58Once again, our communities and our state has rocked up for the right reasons.
01:02We're here to unite and be here for one another, support each other because at the end of the
01:06day you're all on Aboriginal land.

01:14We've got good hearts, our culture is based on acceptance, love, caring for everybody

01:22Meanwhile, a love of surf and sand was on display at Glenelg where many revellers made
01:27the most of the beach weather.
01:29We just came down to spend Australia Day at the beach because it's an Australian thing
01:34to do.
