00:00But Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.
00:03Welcome to Ms. Mojo and today we're counting down our picks for the top 20 awkward award show moments.
00:09You're the nominees for uh you know best mini series or motion picture made for television.
00:18And it was just frenetic spelling but I wasn't I didn't rehearse it that way.
00:22For this list we're looking at the cringiest and most uncomfortable things to happen at televised
00:27What are the most awkward award show moments you've seen? Let us know in the comments.
00:39Lost and Vampire Diaries actor Ian Somerhalder is viewed by many as a heartthrob
00:44but Ariana Grande might not be so smitten.
00:47And your choice female artist is Ariana Grande.
00:53In presenting the pop star with the choice female artist award at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards,
00:58Somerhalder gave her a kiss on the cheek and it struck viewers as a little funny looking.
01:07Some thought that he was going for Grande's lips while others believed it only appeared
01:11clumsy because he was going for her left cheek but had to switch to the right one at the last second.
01:16Awkward as it might have appeared, it only lasted for a few seconds
01:20and Grande gave a very grateful speech upon receiving her new surfboard.
01:34If Leonardo DiCaprio has a new movie out, you can most certainly count on his award show appearances.
01:40In 2016, the same year he won a Best Actor Golden Globe,
01:44plenty of attention was placed on his interaction with Lady Gaga,
01:47who won her own Golden Globe for her role on American Horror Story Hotel.
01:54While walking up to the stage, Gaga made brief physical contact with the eventual Oscar winner.
01:59He quickly jerks his arm back and for the briefest moment shoots her a bit of a funny look.
02:09Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, DiCaprio later clarified that he was just surprised
02:13by the sudden contact. To be fair to Gaga, the Golden Globe seating arrangements do look awfully
02:18crowded.
02:30Wardrobe malfunctions did not start with the Super Bowl.
02:33At Britain's 7th National Television Awards, television presenter Judy Finnegan experienced
02:38something very embarrassing at what should have been one of the best moments of her life.
02:43Upon accepting the award for Most Popular Daytime Program with her husband, Richard Madeley,
02:51the top of Finnegan's dress popped open. And stayed open, exposing her white bra.
02:57The audience was in hysterics and Madeley thought it was because they wanted him to do his Ali G
03:02impression. It's not until someone runs on stage to fix Finnegan up that she appears to realize
03:13what's going on. She got an award and the viewers got a moment they would never forget.
03:37So far, Taylor Swift has won the Grammy for Album of the Year four times. But in 2014,
03:42her album Red was beaten out by French electronic duo Daft Punk's final album,
03:46Random Access Memories. As the winner is announced, Swift's jaw drops and her team
03:55looks positively energized by the news. That is, until the full title is Red. And well, it's not
04:01Red. To her credit, Swift recovers quite well from the momentary confusion, clapping and giving
04:11the winners a standing ovation. We're just glad this wasn't a Zoolander moment.
04:20There's nothing weird about clapping at an awards show. However, there was something
04:24weird about how Nicole Kidman was clapping at the 2017 Oscars. The one-time Best Actress winner,
04:30nominated for Best Supporting Actress at that year's ceremony, clapped in a way that might
04:34be more appropriate for SeaWorld than the Oscars. Kidman later explained it was to protect the
04:39expensive jewelry she was wearing, which included 119 carats in diamonds. Some might feel they have
04:46to choose between looking glamorous and looking congratulatory. Kidman went for both. And we
04:50appreciate her willingness to look a little silly. Some award show moments hurt to watch
05:02because they're so embarrassing. This one hurts to watch because it involves actual physical pain.
05:09When the Jonas Brothers kicked off their performance of S.O.S. at the 2007 American
05:16Music Awards, glass panels shattered right before they walked down the stage.
05:21Joe, in the middle, took a bit of a tumble, falling on the broken glass.
05:28But he didn't let pain get in the way of performing. To reference S.O.S.,
05:32you better believe Joe bled. According to the singer, he didn't even realize how bad he was
05:44bleeding until he got backstage. The Jonas Brothers' cool factor definitely went up in this moment,
05:49even if the tumble was a little awkward.
05:57When Cate Blanchett won the SAG Award for Best Actress for her performance in Blue Jasmine,
06:02she was visibly excited. She even got a little feisty when fighting for as much speaking time
06:09as earlier award winner Matthew McConaughey. But it was what she did and not what she said
06:19that garnered the most attention. During her speech, there's a brief moment where Blanchett
06:24rapidly strokes her award up and down while breathing loudly.
06:37She later won the same award at the Academy Awards two months later,
06:41and it was another memorable speech. Thankfully, there was no stroking to be seen during that one.
06:46It's not uncommon for people to become emotional during award shows,
06:59but Jacqueline Bissett had an especially hard time collecting herself when she won a Golden Globe
07:04for her supporting performance in Dancing on the Edge. After a lengthy walk to the stage,
07:08the English actress struggled to find the right words before finally unleashing a meandering speech.
07:16It wasn't long until the music started to play her off, but that didn't stop Bissett from thanking
07:34several others and dropping a couple of curse words. Bissett made several more rambling remarks
07:44backstage, asking somebody to clean her glasses. While undeniably awkward, we can't blame Bissett
07:50for feeling so overwhelmed, as she really wasn't expecting to win. Falling once is embarrassing,
08:02but it's easy enough to recover from. Two or three times is a little more difficult, but four times?
08:14That's what happened to Katy Perry at the Latin America iteration of the VMAs.
08:20When her performance of I Kissed a Girl concluded, Perry belly-flopped into a huge pink cake
08:25and started throwing it into the crowd. Then, after playfully tossing some cake on her guitarist,
08:38Perry slipped four times on the icing, getting up and falling down again and again,
08:43albeit grinning the whole way through. By the end, she seemed to just give up and crawl instead.
08:58All this to say that a successful award show performance is not always a piece of cake.
09:03Number 11. Ricky Gervais Mocks the Tourist – The 68th Golden Globe Awards
09:09If you hire Ricky Gervais to host your award show, you're gonna get some pretty sharp remarks.
09:24During his monologue at the 68th Golden Globe Awards, the comedian snarked about The Tourist,
09:29a critically panned thriller starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie,
09:33that somehow received three Golden Globe nominations.
09:43Gervais not-so-subtly implied it only received the nominations out of star power and voter bribery.
09:59His jokes were met with either muted reactions or surprised laughter.
10:05There was really no in-between. Tough room at the Golden Globes, apparently.
10:16The Tourist went home empty-handed, but Gervais and his rabble-rousing style returned to host
10:21the Golden Globes three more times. Number 10. Morgan Freeman's Acceptance Speech – The 24th
10:28Screen Actors Guild Awards Morgan Freeman more than earned his Life Achievement Award at the
10:322018 SAG Awards. However, his acceptance speech was easily among the goofiest moments of his
10:39career. And remember, this man once played a vampire on The Electric Company. Speaking of which,
10:44Freeman's old co-star Rita Moreno presented him with this award. Along the way,
10:52she shared several hilarious anecdotes and told Freeman to lift up his baseball cap.
10:58Matters took a particularly mystifying turn when Freeman randomly called out somebody in the
11:06audience, who was later confirmed to be Lily Tomlin. As odd as this detour was, Freeman closed
11:13out his speech with some timely commentary, calling the statue… Number 9. Miguel Meets
11:19an Audience Member – The 20th Billboard Music Awards R&B singer Miguel makes the perfect music
11:25for intimate moments, but not the kind that happened at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards.
11:37While performing his hit song Adorn, Miguel leapt over the crowd onto a different part of the stage.
11:42However, it wasn't a smooth landing, as he landed crotch-first into an audience member's face,
11:48also hitting her with his leg. She appears to brush off the incident all right,
11:52and Miguel keeps on singing. He perfectly demonstrates that as long as you play it cool,
11:57it doesn't have to be awkward. But hopefully, he practiced his onstage acrobatics after this.
12:10Number 8. Madonna's Wardrobe Malfunction – The 35th Brit Awards
12:15Madonna is no stranger to awkward award show moments, notoriously smooching Britney Spears
12:20and Christina Aguilera at the 2003 VMAs. She's also made plenty of headlines with
12:24her bold fashion choices. At the 2015 Brit Awards, though,
12:29Madonna learned the hard way that capes almost always backfire.
12:37When her dancers attempted to yank off the cape as planned, Madonna realized that it was tied
12:42too tight. The queen of pop was thus sent flying down the stairs, much to everyone's shock.
12:47Nevertheless, Madonna managed to pull herself together and complete the performance. In a way,
12:53it's fitting that she was singing living for love, as the song is all about lifting oneself back up.
12:58Number 7. James Franco Silences Tommy Wiseau – The 75th Golden Globe Awards
13:04Tommy Wiseau supposedly kept the room running for two extra weeks to qualify for Academy Award
13:10consideration. Needless to say, his cult classic received no love from the Oscars. About a decade
13:15and a half later, though, Wiseau got to attend the Golden Globes when the disaster artist picked up
13:21multiple nominations. After James Franco won the award for his portrayal of Wiseau,
13:26he kindly invited him to come up on stage. As Wiseau tried grabbing the microphone,
13:35Franco playfully pushed him aside. He probably wanted to avoid an awkward moment,
13:39but silencing Wiseau was ironically awkward in itself. Had he gotten to speak, Wiseau claims
13:45he would have encouraged people to love each other.
13:47Number 6. Ronnie Wood Throws His Drink at Brandon Block – The 20th Brit Awards
13:53At the 2000 Brit Awards, actress Thora Birch and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones presented the
13:59prize for Best Soundtrack Album. Before they could announce that the winner was Notting Hill,
14:04an intoxicated Brandon Block suddenly ambushed them. Although the DJ wasn't up for any awards,
14:10his friends reportedly told him that he had won Best Musician of the Year.
14:20As Block screamed his name into the mic, security attempted to escort him off the stage.
14:26When Block came charging back, Wood threw his drink in his face and the two exchanged insults.
14:31Block was subsequently thrown out of the ceremony,
14:34leaving the bewildered audience wondering what the hell had just happened.
14:38Number 5. Michael Jackson's Birthday Award – The 19th MTV Video Music Awards
14:45To commemorate Michael Jackson's 44th birthday,
14:48Britney Spears presented him with a special statue at the 2002 VMAs.
14:52There was some confusion as to why Jackson was receiving this honor, however.
14:57The misunderstanding stemmed from a comment the Princess of Pop made regarding the King of Pop,
15:02calling him, quote, the artist of the millennium. So, when Jackson took to the stage,
15:06he assumed he was accepting the Artist of the Millennium Award, which does not even exist.
15:14While nobody corrected Jackson during his humble speech,
15:17host Jimmy Fallon poked fun at the incident shortly after.
15:25Jack Black also parodied the moment one year later,
15:28accepting the Super Genius of the Universe Award.
15:31Number 4. Adele Dazeem – The 86th Academy Awards
15:36If you're a Broadway fan, you know Idina Menzel for her work in musicals like Rent and Wicked.
15:42For mainstream audiences, it was Menzel's voiceover performance as Elsa in Frozen
15:46that made her a household name. However, John Travolta still couldn't get her name right
15:51at the 2014 Academy Awards. Before Menzel performed the Oscar-winning Let It Go,
15:56Travolta introduced her as, quote, the wickedly talented, one and only Adele Dazeem.
16:07This flub was so bad, it actually inspired an Adele Dazeem name generator,
16:13allowing people to Travoltify their names. Making light of the mistake,
16:18Menzel playfully turned the tables the following year, announcing Travolta as Glam Gazingo.
16:29Number 3. Jennifer Lopez's Golden Globes – The 72nd Golden Globe Awards
16:34You're bound to find plenty of cleavage at virtually any awards show.
16:38The key is to not point it out, but Golden Globes is a rather suggestive name.
16:43So, when Jennifer Lopez sported a revealing dress at the 2015 ceremony,
16:47Jeremy Renner could not resist connecting the dots.
16:51Presenting an award together, Lopez mentioned that she had the nails to open the envelope,
17:05to which Renner added that she had the globes as well. Igniting laughter and shock,
17:10the comment arguably overshadowed Billy Bob Thornton's win. During his speech,
17:15Thornton mentioned that you can get into a lot of trouble, quote,
17:18no matter what you say. It's a reminder Renner probably wishes he'd heard sooner.
17:23Number 2. Imma Let You Finish – The 26th MTV Video Music Awards
17:28After Taylor Swift won the VMA for Best Female Video, Kanye West jumped on stage and snatched
17:33the microphone out of her hands, declaring that Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.
17:40I'm really happy for you, Imma Let You Finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.
17:45West was booed offstage while Swift cried her eyes out backstage,
17:49forcing Beyonce to do some damage control. The moment immediately sparked countless parodies,
17:55memes and discussions. In response to West's behavior, U.S. President Barack Obama called
18:00him a jackass, while future President Donald Trump called for a Kanye boycott.
18:05Well, there's one thing Obama and Trump could agree on.
18:08Meanwhile, West also nearly repeated himself at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards,
18:13when Beck won Album of the Year. Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel

18:34The 89th Academy Awards
18:37Something was clearly amiss at the 2017 Oscars when Warren Beatty hesitated to announce the
18:43Best Picture winner. If you turned off your television after Faye Dunaway declared
18:47La La Land victorious, you missed a landmark moment in live television.
18:51After a few minutes on stage, the La La Land producers announced there was a mix-up
18:56and Moonlight had actually won. Host Jimmy Kimmel jokingly blamed Steve Harvey,
19:01but it was apparently PWC accountant Brian Cullinan who handed Beatty the wrong envelope.
19:10While the crews from La La Land and Moonlight both acted graciously,
19:13the fiasco rocked Hollywood like never before. What makes this moment even more surreal
19:19is that BoJack Horseman totally saw it coming.
