Transcript
00:00You are my wife!
00:01Goodbye, city life!
00:03We never see each other!
00:07Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most uncomfortable situations to ever occur at award shows.
00:15Should we get on with it?
00:19Number 30, Melody Out of Harmony, the 34th American Music Awards.
00:24Other than a chair falling over, the Pussycat Dolls' performance at the 2006 AMAs almost went off without a hitch.
00:31Tellin' you to hush and knock my buttons, babe, I have a choo-kee-frottin'
00:36Then, with less than a minute left, Melody Thornton stormed onto the stage.
00:40If you forgot that this group had a sixth member, you definitely remembered as Thornton started singing off-pitch over Nicole Scherzinger.
00:48The performance left many feeling confused and probably pressed a few buttons.
00:53I'll turn you loose in the AMAs
00:58Come on now!
01:00I'll shoo-kee-frottin'
01:02Baby!
01:04Fourteen years later, Thornton explained that a lost passport caused her to miss rehearsals, landing shortly before the show.
01:12So, if you thought Thornton's grand finale looked unrehearsed, that's cause it was.
01:16It is what it is, you just hammer through.
01:18After feeling worthless in the group, Thornton went solo a few years later and announced that she wasn't taking part in the reunion.
01:2629. Elizabeth Taylor
01:28Are you not entertained?
01:30The 58th Golden Globe Awards
01:32Elizabeth Taylor is the definition of a screen legend, making her more than qualified to present the best picture drama Golden Globe.
01:40Jeff Bridges gave Taylor the introduction she deserved, building her up as one of the all-time greats.
01:47I have the privilege of introducing one of Hollywood's all-time great stars.
01:51Ladies and gentlemen, Dame Elizabeth Taylor!
01:55Taylor received a standing ovation, and then, well, for somebody who won so many awards during her lifetime, she seemingly forgot how award shows work.
02:05Prematurely opening the envelope, Taylor needed Dick Clark to come on stage and remind her to read the nominees first.
02:11What is this for?
02:13You must read the nominees first.
02:15Taylor proceeded to list off the nominees.
02:17Very slowly and with her words slurred, finally announcing Gladiator as the winner.
02:23And the winner is...
02:25a splashing envelope.
02:37Gladiator!
02:39Gladiator!
02:41As exciting as some have speculated, one thing is for certain.
02:45Jinx Monsoon does a dead-on impression of Liz.
02:4928. Emma Stone Apologizes
02:51The 76th Golden Globe Awards
02:53Hollywood has made great strides for diversity in recent years, with films like Crazy Rich Asians.
02:59However, that doesn't undo the mistakes that the industry was still making only a few years earlier.
03:05So your family is, like, rich?
03:10Quite comfortable.
03:12That is exactly what a super rich person would say.
03:14Co-hosting the Golden Globes,
03:16Sandra Oh confronted the problematic casting of Ghost in the Shell,
03:20which enlisted Scarlett Johansson over an Asian lead,
03:24and Aloha, which starred Emma Stone as a captain who's supposed to be part Chinese and Hawaiian.
03:30Oh, Captain Ring.
03:32It's Ing. It's like Ring, but without the R or the I.
03:34It's just Ing.
03:36Stone was in attendance that night,
03:38having been nominated for the favorite.
03:40Although the camera didn't cut to her,
03:42Stone could be heard shouting,
03:44I'm sorry, in the distance.
03:46It is the first studio film with an Asian-American lead since Ghost in the Shell and Aloha.
03:54The joke itself is biting,
03:56but having Stone present
03:58elevated the moment to another level of hilarious awkwardness.
04:0227. Judy Finnegan's Bra
04:04Judy Finnegan's Bra,
04:06the 7th National Television Awards.
04:08Wardrobe malfunctions did not start with the Super Bowl.
04:10At Britain's 7th National Television Awards,
04:12television presenter Judy Finnegan
04:14experienced something very embarrassing
04:16at what should have been
04:18one of the best moments of her life.
04:20And the winners are
04:22Judy and Richard of the Sloanen.
04:24Upon accepting the award for most popular daytime program
04:26with her husband, Richard Madeley,
04:28the top of Finnegan's dress popped open
04:30and stayed open,
04:33exposing her white bra.
04:35The audience was in hysterics
04:37and Madeley thought it was because they wanted him
04:39to do his Ali G impression.
04:47It's not until someone runs on stage
04:49to fix Finnegan up that she appears to realize
04:51what's going on.
04:53She got an award and the viewers got a moment
04:55they would never forget.
05:0326.
05:05Taylor Swift doesn't win
05:07Album of the Year,
05:09the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.
05:15So far, Taylor Swift has won the Grammy
05:17for Album of the Year four times.
05:19But in 2014, her album Red
05:21was beaten out by French electronic duo
05:23Daft Punk's final album
05:25Random Access Memories.
05:29As the winner is announced,
05:31her jaw drops and her team
05:33looks positively energized by the news.
05:35That is, until the full title is read
05:37and, well, it's not read.
05:43To her credit, Swift recovers
05:45quite well from the momentary confusion,
05:47clapping and giving the winners
05:49a standing ovation.
05:51We're just glad this wasn't a Zoolander moment.
05:5325.
05:55Nicole Kidman's seal claps,
05:57the 89th Academy Awards.
05:59There's nothing weird about clapping at an awards show.
06:01However, there was something weird
06:03about how Nicole Kidman was clapping
06:05at the 2017 Oscars.
06:07The one-time Best Actress winner,
06:09nominated for Best Supporting Actress
06:11at that year's ceremony,
06:13clapped in a way that might be more appropriate
06:15for SeaWorld than the Oscars.
06:17Kidman later explained it was to protect
06:19the expensive jewelry she was wearing,
06:21which included 119 carats in diamonds.
06:23Some might feel they have to choose
06:25between looking glamorous and looking congratulatory.
06:28Kidman went for both,
06:30and we appreciate her willingness
06:32to look a little silly.
06:3424.
06:36Joe Jonas cuts his hand,
06:38the 35th Annual American Music Awards.
06:40Some award show moments hurt to watch
06:42because they're so embarrassing.
06:44This one hurts to watch because
06:46it involves actual physical pain.
06:52When the Jonas Brothers kicked off
06:54their performance of S.O.S.
06:56Glass panels shattered right before
06:58they walked down the stage.
07:00Joe, in the middle, took a bit of a tumble,
07:02falling on the broken glass.
07:06But he didn't let pain get in the way
07:08of performing.
07:10To reference S.O.S., you better believe Joe bled.
07:18According to the singer,
07:20he didn't even realize how bad
07:22he was bleeding until he got backstage.
07:24The Jonas Brothers' cool factor
07:26definitely went up in this moment,
07:28even if the tumble was a little awkward.
07:3023.
07:32Cate Blanchett strokes her SAG,
07:34the 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards.
07:36When Cate Blanchett won the SAG Award
07:38for Best Actress for her performance in Blue Jasmine,
07:40she was visibly excited.
07:44She even got a little feisty
07:46when fighting for as much speaking time
07:48as earlier award winner Matthew McConaughey.
07:54But it was what she did
07:56and not what she said
07:58that garnered the most attention.
08:00During her speech,
08:02there's a brief moment where Blanchett
08:04rapidly strokes her award up and down
08:06while breathing loudly.
08:16She later won the same award
08:18at the Academy Awards two months later,
08:20and it was another memorable speech.
08:22It was so stroking to be seen during that one.
08:3022.
08:32Jacqueline Bissett's acceptance speech,
08:34the 71st Golden Globe Awards.
08:36It's not uncommon for people to become emotional
08:38during award shows,
08:40but Jacqueline Bissett had an especially hard time
08:42collecting herself when she won a Golden Globe
08:44for her supporting performance in Dancing on the Edge.
08:46After a lengthy walk to the stage,
08:48the English actress struggled to find the right words
08:51before finally unleashing a meandering speech.
09:09It wasn't long until the music started to play her off,
09:11but that didn't stop Bissett from thanking several others
09:13and dropping a couple of curse words.
09:21Bissett made several more rambling remarks backstage,
09:23asking somebody to clean her glasses.
09:27While undeniably awkward,
09:29we can't blame Bissett for feeling so overwhelmed,
09:31as she really wasn't expecting to win.
09:3521.
09:37The original envelope gate,
09:39the 39th Annie Awards.
09:41About five years before another envelope mix-up,
09:43animation's biggest night had a similar fiasco.
09:45Presenting Best Animated Television Production
09:47Preschool, actress Brittany Snow
09:49announced the winner,
09:51The Amazing World of Gumball.
09:53Almost everyone quickly realized
09:55that something was amiss,
09:57seeing as how Gumball wasn't even a nominee.
10:09Gumball actually won Best Animated Television Production
10:11Children,
10:13which was supposed to be announced later.
10:15Host Patton Oswalt hurried onto the stage,
10:17explaining the situation with some well-timed one-liners
10:19and embracing the awkwardness of it all.
10:37Before having the Gumball crew come up and accept,
10:39Patton cracked a few more jokes
10:41at co-presenter Jason Marsden's expense
10:43and assured Snow it was alright.
10:46It's not like she was presenting Best Picture
10:48at the Academy Awards.
10:5020.
10:52Michael Douglas' tribute goes on forever,
10:54the 61st Golden Globe Awards.
10:56Michael Douglas has had a storied career,
10:58and you definitely felt its length
11:00when he received the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
11:02Danny DeVito and Sharon Stone
11:04spent nearly 10 minutes
11:06reminiscing about Douglas' cinematic contributions,
11:08complete with drawn-out clips.
11:16This might be acceptable
11:18at the Governor's Awards
11:20or the AFI Life Achievement Awards,
11:22but the Golden Globes
11:24are already lengthy enough,
11:26with nearly two dozen other statues
11:28to hand out.
11:30Then, when Douglas' tribute finally wrapped up,
11:32it suddenly dawned on the audience
11:34that he still needed to give a speech.
11:36He did not keep it short.
11:38After nearly 20 minutes
11:40of squirming in their seats
11:42and checking their watches,
11:44the uncomfortable viewers
11:46breathed a sigh of relief
11:48as they cut to commercial.
11:5019.
11:52Leonardo DiCaprio and Lady Gaga,
11:54the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.
11:56If Leonardo DiCaprio
11:58has a new movie out,
12:00you can most certainly
12:02look forward to it.
12:04If Leonardo DiCaprio
12:06has a new movie out,
12:08you can most certainly
12:10count on his award show appearances.
12:12In 2016, the same year
12:14he won a Best Actor Golden Globe,
12:16plenty of attention was placed
12:18on his interaction with Lady Gaga,
12:20who won her own Golden Globe
12:22for her role on American Horror Story Hotel.
12:24While walking up to the stage,
12:26Gaga made brief physical contact
12:28with the eventual Oscar winner.
12:30He quickly jerks his arm back
12:32for a funny look.
12:36Speaking with Entertainment Tonight,
12:38DiCaprio later clarified
12:40that he was just surprised
12:42by the sudden contact.
12:44To be fair to Gaga,
12:46the Golden Globe seating arrangements
12:48do look awfully crowded.
12:5418.
12:56Ian Somerhalder Kisses Ariana Grande,
12:58the 16th Teen Choice Awards.
13:00Vampire Diaries actor Ian Somerhalder
13:02is viewed by many as a heartthrob,
13:04but Ariana Grande might not be so smitten.
13:14When presenting the pop star
13:16with the Choice Female Artist Award
13:18at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards,
13:20Somerhalder gave her a kiss on the cheek,
13:22and it struck viewers as a little funny-looking.
13:24Some thought
13:26that he was going for Grande's lips,
13:28while others believed
13:30it only appeared clumsy
13:32because he was going for her left cheek
13:34but had to switch to the right one
13:36at the last second.
13:38Awkward as it might have appeared,
13:40it only lasted for a few seconds,
13:42and Grande gave a very grateful speech
13:44upon receiving her new surfboard.
13:4817.
13:50Katy Perry Falls,
13:52MTV Latinoamerica
13:54Falling once is embarrassing,
13:56but it's easy enough to recover from.
13:58Two or three times
14:00is a little more difficult,
14:02but four times?
14:10That's what happened to Katy Perry
14:12at the Latin America iteration of the VMAs.
14:14When her performance of I Kissed a Girl
14:16concluded, Perry belly-flopped
14:18into a huge pink cake
14:20and threw it into the crowd.
14:28Then, after playfully tossing
14:30some cake on her guitarist,
14:32Perry slipped four times on the icing,
14:34getting up and falling down
14:36again and again,
14:38albeit grinning the whole way through.
14:44By the end, she seemed to just give up
14:46and crawl instead.
14:51All this to say that a successful
14:53award show performance is not
14:55always a piece of cake.
14:5716. Lady Gaga's Meat Dress,
14:59the 27th MTV
15:01Video Music Awards
15:03When a dress is displayed in a museum
15:05and even gets a Wikipedia page,
15:07that must mean it's either
15:09a revelation of fashion
15:11or a head-scratching misfire.
15:21Where does this meat dress place?
15:23That kinda depends who you ask,
15:25but when Lady Gaga accepted
15:27Video of the Year in this raw
15:29flank steak ensemble,
15:31you could hear jaws across the globe
15:33hitting the floor.
15:35While Gaga was already famed
15:37for her elaborate fashion stunts,
15:39this was so out there that
15:41a lot of people still don't know
15:43what to think.
15:45Of course, vegans have their opinion.
15:47Gaga would explain that the dress
15:49is a statement about fighting for your rights.
15:58While the message is strong,
16:00it might have been overshadowed
16:02by this moment's sheer absurdity.
16:0415. Donald Trump Sings
16:06with Karen Walker,
16:08the 57th Primetime Emmy Awards
16:10Capitalizing on American Idol,
16:12the 2005 Emmy telecast
16:14had some of TV's biggest stars
16:16sing popular theme songs.
16:18They kicked off Emmy Idol
16:20with Donald Trump,
16:22then best known for The Apprentice,
16:24and Megan Mullally in character
16:26as Karen Walker.
16:28The song? The Green Acres theme,
16:30with Donald trading his blue suit
16:32and red tie for farmer attire.
16:42Watching this cringey spectacle,
16:44we all thought the same thing.
16:4611 years from now,
16:48that man is going to be elected president,
16:50and Will & Grace will be revived shortly after.
16:52While Trump never won a competitive Emmy,
16:54he did share in this
16:56Emmy Idol win,
16:58which even Mullally regrets.
17:12Quite frankly, Kristen Bell
17:14would have won for her fame rendition,
17:16but Trump is known for beating
17:18more qualified candidates.
17:2014. Ricky Gervais Mocks the Tourist
17:22the 68th Golden Globe Awards
17:24If you hire Ricky Gervais
17:26to host your award show,
17:28you're going to get some pretty sharp remarks.
17:40During his monologue at the 68th Golden Globe Awards,
17:42the comedian snarked about The Tourist,
17:44a critically panned thriller
17:46starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie
17:48that somehow received
17:50three Golden Globe nominations.
17:58Gervais not so subtly implied
18:00it only received the nominations
18:02out of star power and voter bribery.
18:12His jokes were met
18:14with either muted reactions
18:16or surprised laughter.
18:18There was really no in-between.
18:20Tough room at the Golden Globes,
18:22apparently.
18:32The Tourist went home empty-handed,
18:34but Gervais and his rabble-rousing style
18:36returned to host the Golden Globes
18:38three more times.
18:4013. Morgan Freeman's Acceptance Speech
18:42the 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards
18:44Morgan Freeman more than earned
18:46his Life Achievement Award
18:48at the 2018 SAG Awards.
18:50However, his acceptance speech
18:52was easily among the goofiest moments
18:54of his career. And remember,
18:56this man once played a vampire
18:58on The Electric Company.
19:00Speaking of which, Freeman's old co-star
19:02Rita Moreno presented him with this award.
19:04Along the way,
19:06she shared several hilarious anecdotes
19:08and told Freeman to lift up
19:10his baseball cap.
19:16Matters took a particularly mystifying turn
19:18when Freeman randomly called out
19:20somebody in the audience
19:22who was later confirmed
19:24to be Lily Tomlin.
19:26As odd as this detour was,
19:28Freeman closed out his speech
19:30with some timely commentary,
19:3312. Miguel Meets
19:35an Audience Member
19:37the 20th Billboard Music Awards
19:39R&B singer Miguel makes the perfect music
19:41for intimate moments,
19:43but not the kind that happened at the 2013
19:45Billboard Music Awards.
19:53While performing his hit song Adorn,
19:55Miguel leapt over the crowd
19:57onto a different part of the stage.
19:59However, it wasn't a smooth landing
20:01as he landed crotch-first
20:03into an audience member's face,
20:05also hitting her with his leg.
20:07She appears to brush off the incident,
20:09and Miguel keeps on singing.
20:11He perfectly demonstrates that
20:13as long as you play it cool,
20:15it doesn't have to be awkward.
20:17But hopefully he practiced
20:19his onstage acrobatics after this.
20:2711. Madonna's Wardrobe Malfunction
20:29the 35th Brit Awards
20:31Madonna is no stranger to awkward
20:33award show moments, notoriously
20:35smooching Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera
20:37at the 2003 VMAs.
20:39She's also made plenty of headlines with her
20:41bold fashion choices.
20:43At the 2015 Brit Awards though,
20:45Madonna learned the hard way that capes
20:47almost always backfire.
20:53When her dancers attempted to yank off the cape
20:55as planned, Madonna realized
20:57that it was tied too tight.
20:59The Queen of Pop was thus sent flying
21:01down the stairs, much to everyone's
21:03shock. Nevertheless, Madonna
21:05managed to pull herself together and
21:07complete the performance. In a way,
21:09it's fitting that she was singing Living for Love
21:11as the song is all about
21:13lifting oneself back up.
21:1510. James Franco silences
21:17Tommy Wiseau, the 75th
21:19Golden Globe Awards. Tommy Wiseau
21:21supposedly kept the room running
21:23for two extra weeks to qualify
21:25for Academy Award consideration.
21:27Needless to say, his cult
21:29classic received no love from the
21:31Oscars. About a decade and a half
21:33later though, Wiseau got to attend the
21:35Golden Globes when the disaster artist
21:37picked up multiple nominations.
21:39After James Franco won the award for his
21:41portrayal of Wiseau, he kindly
21:43invited him to come up on stage.
21:45Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
21:47As Wiseau
21:49tried grabbing the microphone, Franco
21:51playfully pushed him aside.
21:53Franco probably wanted to avoid
21:55an awkward moment, but silencing
21:57Wiseau was ironically awkward
21:59in itself. Had he gotten to speak,
22:01Wiseau claims he would have encouraged
22:03people to love each other.
22:059. Ronnie Wood throws his drink
22:07at Brandon Block, the 20th
22:09Brit Awards. At the 2000
22:11Brit Awards, actress Thora
22:13Birch and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling
22:15Stones presented the prize for
22:17Best Soundtrack Album. Before they could
22:19announce that the winner was Notting Hill,
22:21intoxicated Brandon Block suddenly
22:23ambushed them. Although the DJ
22:25wasn't up for any awards,
22:27his friends reportedly told him that he had
22:29won Best Musician of the Year.
22:37As Block screamed his name into
22:39the mic, security attempted to escort
22:41him off the stage. When Block
22:43came charging back, Wood threw his
22:45drink in his face and the two exchanged
22:47insults. Block was subsequently
22:49thrown out of the ceremony, leaving
22:51the bewildered audience wondering
22:53what the hell had just happened.
22:558. Michael Moore takes
22:57on the President, the 75th Academy
22:59Awards. With the Iraq
23:01War commencing just days earlier,
23:03political tensions were high going
23:05into the 2003 Oscars. Jack
23:07Nicholson reportedly suggested that the Best
23:09Actor nominees boycott the ceremony,
23:11while director Hayao Miyazaki,
23:13who won Best Animated Feature that
23:15year, refused to attend.
23:20Michael Moore
23:22was in attendance, however, and
23:24when Bowling for Columbine won Best
23:26Documentary Feature, Moore gave
23:28the politically charged speech
23:30his fans might expect. Yet
23:32nothing could prepare the audience
23:34for Moore's comments on George W. Bush,
23:36describing everything about
23:38his presidency as fictitious.
23:40The mix of boos and
23:42applause only made Moore's speech more
23:44uncomfortable.
23:49Moore didn't
23:51get to finish his speech at the Oscars,
23:53but he'd finally share the rest at
23:55the Critics' Choice Documentary Awards
23:57almost 15 years later.
23:597. Michael Jackson's
24:01Birthday Award, the 19th
24:03MTV Video Music Awards.
24:05To commemorate Michael Jackson's
24:0744th birthday, Britney Spears
24:09presented him with a special statue
24:11at the 2002 VMAs.
24:13There was some confusion
24:15at the time, however.
24:17The misunderstanding stemmed
24:19from a comment the Princess of Pop
24:21made regarding the King of Pop,
24:23calling him, quote,
24:25the artist of the millennium.
24:27So when Jackson took to the stage,
24:29he assumed he was accepting the
24:31Artist of the Millennium Award,
24:33which does not even exist.
24:35While nobody corrected Jackson
24:37during his humble speech,
24:39host Jimmy Fallon poked fun
24:41at the incident shortly after.
24:43Jimmy Fallon
24:45Jimmy Fallon
24:49Jack Black
24:51also parodied the moment one year later,
24:53accepting the Super
24:55Genius of the Universe Award.
24:576. Ending with Best Actor
24:59was a big mistake, the 93rd
25:01Academy Awards.
25:03After Anthony Hopkins won
25:05Best Actor at the Baftas,
25:07it appeared the late Chadwick Boseman
25:09might not be the Oscar front runner.
25:11Bad luck?
25:13I ain't had nothing but bad luck all my life, couldn't get no worse, what the hell I care
25:17about some bad luck?
25:18Hell, I eat it every day for breakfast.
25:20At this point, the Oscar producers should have reconsidered saving best actor for last.
25:25They stayed the course, however, hoping to end with a heartfelt speech from Boseman's
25:29widow, Taylor Simone Ledward.
25:31Well, an absent Hopkins won.
25:33And that's it.
25:34So that was it.
25:35That's how the show ended.
25:36And of course, Twitter exploded with how Chadwick was robbed.
25:39Whoever you think gave the better performance, abruptly ending on this note was uncomfortable
25:45for everybody, especially Boseman's family and Hopkins, who subsequently recorded a speech.
25:50And at 83 years of age, I did not expect to get this award.
25:56I really didn't.
25:57And I'm very grateful to the Academy and thank you.
26:01It'd be one thing if the Academy acknowledged that this was a misfire.
26:05Instead, co-producer Steven Soderbergh doubled down, saying, quote, if Boseman were to win
26:10and his widow were to speak on his behalf, there would be nowhere to go after that.
26:15Number five, Adele Dazeem, the 86th Academy Awards.
26:19If you're a Broadway fan, you know Idina Menzel for her work in musicals like Rent
26:24and Wicked.
26:25For mainstream audiences, it was Menzel's voiceover performance as Elsa in Frozen that
26:29made her a household name.
26:31However, John Travolta still couldn't get her name right at the 2014 Academy Awards.
26:36Before Menzel performed the Oscar-winning Let It Go, Travolta introduced her as, quote,
26:42the wickedly talented, one and only Adele Dazeem.
26:45I said, oh, by the way, we've changed Idina's name to a phonetic spelling.
26:49I went, but what do you mean?
26:51Go!
26:52This flub was so bad, it actually inspired an Adele Dazeem name generator, allowing people
26:57to Travoltify their names.
27:00Making light of the mistake, Menzel playfully turned the tables the following year, announcing
27:04Travolta as, Glam Gazingo.
27:07It threw me a little bit.
27:08How many times a day?
27:09But now it's the best thing that's ever happened.
27:10Yeah, but now of course, yeah.
27:12Number four, Jennifer Lopez's Golden Globes, the 72nd Golden Globe Awards.
27:17You're bound to find plenty of cleavage at virtually any award show.
27:21The key is to not point it out, but Golden Globes is a rather suggestive name.
27:26So when Jennifer Lopez sported a revealing dress at the 2015 ceremony, Jeremy Renner
27:31could not resist connecting the dots.
27:34The Golden Globe goes to, you want to open it?
27:36You want me to do it?
27:37Yeah.
27:38I have the nails.
27:39Yeah, get after it.
27:40You got the globes too.
27:41Um.
27:43Presenting an award together, Lopez mentioned that she had the nails to open the envelope,
27:48to which Renner added that she had the globes as well.
27:52Igniting laughter and shock, the comment arguably overshadowed Billy Bob Thornton's win.
27:57During his speech, Thornton mentioned that you can get into a lot of trouble, quote,
28:01no matter what you say.
28:02It's a reminder Renner probably wishes he'd heard sooner.
28:06Number three, wrong best picture winner announced, the 89th Academy Awards.
28:11Something was clearly amiss at the 2017 Oscars when Warren Beatty hesitated to announce the
28:17best picture winner.
28:18If you turned off your television after Faye Dunaway declared La La Land victorious, you
28:23missed a landmark moment in live television.
28:26After a few minutes on stage, the La La Land producers announced there was a mix-up and
28:31Moonlight had actually won.
28:33Host Jimmy Kimmel jokingly blamed Steve Harvey, but it was apparently PWC accountant Brian
28:37Cullinan who handed Beatty the wrong envelope.
28:40The second you give that award out, you shred the other card.
28:44While the crews from La La Land and Moonlight both acted graciously, the fiasco rocked Hollywood
28:49like never before.
28:51What makes this moment even more surreal is that BoJack Horseman totally saw it coming.
29:06After Taylor Swift won the VMA for best female video, Kanye West jumped on stage and snatched
29:11the microphone out of her hands, declaring that Beyonce had one of the best videos of
29:16all time.
29:23West was booed offstage while Swift cried her eyes out backstage, forcing Beyonce to
29:28do some damage control.
29:30The moment immediately sparked countless parodies, memes, and discussions.
29:34In response to West's behavior, US President Barack Obama called him a jackass, while future
29:39President Donald Trump called for a Kanye boycott.
29:43There's one thing Obama and Trump could agree on.
29:45Meanwhile, West also nearly repeated himself at the 57th annual Grammy Awards when Beck
29:51won Album of the Year.
30:09The Pursuit of Slappiness, the 94th Academy Awards.
30:14It was the slap heard round the world, except the censored parts.
30:25The 2022 Oscars took a turn after Chris Rock compared Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head
30:31to G.I.
30:32Jane.
30:33Since Pinkett Smith has alopecia, nobody would've blamed Will Smith if he called out Rock on
30:39Instead, Smith literally took matters into his own hands, slapping Rock in front of 16
30:45million viewers.
30:53Smith essentially confirmed that this wasn't a bit, as he cursed Rock out.
30:58It was hard to move past this display, especially since Smith later won Best Actor, describing
31:03himself as a quote, vessel for love.
31:07Smith has released an apology, but what should've been the pinnacle of his career will now be
31:11remembered for one little fight.
