00:00The Armed Forces of the Philippines have also been called to search for the members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front

00:07who attacked soldiers in the town of Sumisip, Basilan, who were surrounded by two soldiers.

00:14This is what Patrick Dejesus reported.

00:16At 4 o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, an armed group attacked the members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front,

00:31the troops of the 32nd Infantry Battalion in the town of Sumisip, Basilan.

00:36The soldiers were sent to Barangay Lower Kapimbing to provide security to an activity of the United Nations Development Program.

00:44Their military truck was also burned.

00:47Two were injured while 12 were wounded in the ranks of our troops.

00:52Two were also killed in the ranks of the enemy.

00:55No one was seriously injured by the UNDP.

00:59The AFP ordered the search for the members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

01:04We condone the families of our fallen heroes

01:09and rest assured that the Philippine Army will ensure the prompt support of our fallen heroes.

01:18At the moment, our wounded are being investigated.

01:22As part of our firm resolve to sustain this hard-earned peace and progress in Basilan,

01:30we are working closely with the local government units and other law enforcement agencies

01:39to ensure that these perpetrators will be put to the poles of the law

01:48and justice will be served to our fallen heroes.

01:54AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Browner Jr. visited Basilan to find out the situation after the incident.

02:02101st Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Alvin Luzon called on the leadership of the MILF

02:09to take immediate action against their members involved in the attack.

02:15The Office of the Presidential Advisor on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr.

02:23also condemned the group's attack,

02:25claiming that they are trying to destroy the peace in Basilan.

02:30Galvez added that the MILF should investigate the incident and punish the members.

02:38According to the provincial government of Basilan, the incident is isolated,

02:42but it can also serve as a wake-up call.

02:45This has not happened every day.

02:49In fact, what happened with MI last November was more than a year ago.

02:59There were a few, but it was a wake-up call for all of us.

03:06It's really dead.

03:07The vulnerability is still there,

03:11but this is not the reason why the initiative should be stopped.

03:16The more that the development should be intensified aggressively.

03:22Despite the attack, the United Nations said in the Philippines

03:27that they will continue their peace-building efforts in the Moro region.

03:32The UN also assured that all of their missions are in coordination with the authorities,

03:38where this is the first time that there has been an incident since the implementation of the peace process.
