00:00All right, a new Speaker of the House or new House representative in Texas appears to be pro-sports betting.
00:06So there is some optimism that the state of Texas makes a little bit of a step forward.
00:10Long way to go here. Not even sure 2025 is in play, but definitely the more that are involved,
00:15it just does signal that these two states that are out there, California and Texas,
00:19those are the big ones left that all of the sports betting providers are waiting to see if they get legalized or not.
00:24Yeah, this one's really interesting. As we know, the Senate is the big, big hurdle.
00:29Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick's not letting up. His strong point is the GOP platform in Texas is anti-gambling.
00:36We're not moving until, you know, if there's more Democratic support than Republican support,
00:41we're not taking a bill up in the Senate. So that's there.
00:44But in the House, we have a new Speaker because there was a runoff between a far right faction and the more moderate faction.
00:51Dustin Burroughs, the moderate Republican, won support to be the Speaker of the House.
00:57What's interesting is he voted against the sports betting bill in 2023 that passed.
01:02However, he got way more Democratic support than Republican support to be the Speaker of the House.
01:08So that opens up that bipartisanship that will be needed to get any sort of movement in a sports betting bill in Texas.
01:17What that means in the Senate, we'll see,
01:19but it does kind of open up certain flexibility for some of those moderate Republicans to say,
01:24hey, we do like this sports betting bill because it does a lot of good for the state to regulate and keep it in the clean air.
01:31We'll see what ultimately happens. Senate's still the major issue,
01:35but the House seems to remain open because it did pass in 2023.
