Nebraska Moves Closer to Online Sports Betting Legislation

00:00Okay, Nebraska sports bettors have to go in person to make bets, but I know that they've
00:07been pushing to get this online for a number of months.
00:11How much closer do you think, Sam, that this is getting?
00:14Yeah, it's getting closer from the standpoint that there's a lot of support behind it happening.
00:20The problem here is so much support is needed for this to happen, and more importantly needed
00:25for it to happen anytime soon.
00:27A Senate committee in Nebraska advanced a bill this week that if it gets to the Senate
00:33floor, the Senate votes on it, it'll essentially allow voters to vote on the ballot if they
00:37want sports betting.
00:39But everything else is what happens after that.
00:41They need about 80% of the full Senate vote for this to pass.
00:45If they don't get it, they need 60% for it to pass in 2026.
00:49So a lot of support is really needed here because of the nature of changing a gaming
00:54law in a state like Nebraska is really difficult.
00:57If this does get to the ballot, people would have to overwhelmingly approve it.
01:01And then lawmakers would then come back in January 2025 to then figure out how sports
01:06betting is all going to work, what the legal framework would look like.
01:10So there's a ton of steps, a ton of you have to approve this for us to approve that for
01:14us to approve this.
01:15So it's still pretty far away in Nebraska.
01:17You only have four casinos in place that's at right now, but things are progressing in
01:22a good direction.
01:24It's just going to be a very, very slow direction if you're in Nebraska and you want online
01:27sports betting.
01:28So it'll be something we monitor for the rest of the year as it continues to unfold.
