00:00The Senate is now urging the government to implement a deployment in Ban, in Kuwait following the latest incident of the death of two Filipinas there.
00:10It is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs, which said that the police should add more to protect the OFWs.
00:18Raffy Tima has the first news.
00:20Two days after the OFWs found out that Jenny Alvarado had returned to the country, the truth came out and she was immediately hospitalized for an autopsy.
00:39Rodriguez Rizal was shocked by the news. According to his family, Jenny's employer told them that she died after being suffocated by the burning of a firewood,
00:48which they did not believe. For them, the incident was a foul play because her body was full of pus.
00:55At the Senate hearing, Jenny's family told her the abuse that her mother experienced from her Kuwaiti employer.
01:02My mother said that she was being held in the same house when her employer left.
01:07She was being scolded for having too much food.
01:13We investigated the DMW-01 and the DFA for the foul play. She was being held in the same house. She was not being fed properly.
01:26We will look into the criminal aspect of the case that we will file.
01:31In 2018, the total deployment ban on OFWs in Kuwait was implemented after Joanna Dimafilis' body was found inside the freezer of her employer in Kuwait.
01:41But it was lifted after there was an agreement with Kuwait that there should be additional protection for OFWs.
01:47Among those, they have the right to hide their passports and mobile phones, the right to food, housing and health insurance of their employers.
01:56Despite this, the cases of abuse did not stop.
02:00In 2023, Julie Bernara's body was found in the desert of Kuwait after she was killed and her employer's son raped her.
02:07The bilateral labor agreement in Kuwait was ordered to be re-studied.
02:11The deployment in Kuwait of first-time overseas workers was stopped and it is still being implemented until now.
02:18The Senate approved the implementation of the deployment ban.
02:22Even if I have to talk to the President about this, and I will, let's bring back the ban.
02:29There will be no more new deployment, stop.
02:33Those who are there now, those who have contracts, if they want to renew their contracts, I'm okay with that.
02:41But there will be no more changes.
02:45Those who are staying there, that's it.
02:48Then, if they renew their contracts, okay.
02:54The Department of Foreign Affairs is in favor of this.
02:57The government of Kuwait is having a hard time talking about the addition of police to protect our OFWs.
03:03But the deployment ban can be used as a bargaining chip.
03:06I believe that when you mentioned that the ban needs to be reinstated, that's one incentive for Kuwait to agree.
03:14If there are a lot of requirements and briefings for our countrymen working in Kuwait, it should be the same for the employers.
03:21This is the first news. Rafi Tima for GMA Integrated News.
