Data centers already account for 1% of global energy consumption, a figure that will only grow due to the rapid development of AI, something that worries environmentalists. But quantum computing will be ‘part of the solution’, says Georges-Olivier Raymond, CEO of quantum computing firm Pasqal. He was speaking to CGTN at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

00:00Yes, absolutely. And quantum computers are also part of the solution.
00:04First of all, because they can help developing new solutions.
00:07We can work also on, I mentioned, the energy sector, grid electricity.
00:13We can help them reducing, optimizing the distribution of electricity and reducing the loss.
00:19So, first impact that quantum computers can directly have on the global footprint.
00:25The cherry of the cake, if you want to, is that quantum computers are also part of the solutions
00:30because they are also very low energy intensive.
00:33It takes only a couple of kilowatts to operate our quantum computers
00:38compared to megawatts with classical maths.
00:41So, they are order of magnitude lower than classical solutions.
