Oak Activities has opened a new hub in Peterborough
Transcript
00:00Yeah, so at our vacation hub in Hampton, we're going to be offering hair and beauty construction
00:10and catering to young people from Key Stage 3 up to post-16.
00:15And who are some of the types of students you're going to be working with?
00:18So students that are disengaged with school, students that are struggling with their education
00:22could come here and learn a vocation alongside that they can do some more functional skills
00:27work, learn how to have a BTEC and an AQA Units Award, so there's lots that we can offer
00:31here to those students.
00:33People within the HCP can come here, they're going to be in a smaller group, a more nurturing
00:37environment where they can learn different skills and work towards a career after they
00:41leave us.
00:42So all that, you know, offering students that perhaps need maybe a bit of an alternative
00:48to normal education, standard education and an opportunity in life?
00:52Yeah, of course.
00:53Yeah, we work with, well we have about 150 students that come with us over our primary
00:57and secondary school, so they are coming away from that mainstream environment for a short
01:01period of time per day and learning new skillsets around their social and emotional and mental
01:06health needs and they'll learn that with us.
01:08So they'll still potentially have access to mainstream, but they can come to us as well.
01:13Well I'm really impressed with OAK Activities, what they're doing is giving young people,
01:18teaching them the skills of confidence, resilience, giving them structure, and I think they're
01:24just doing that sets them up for the future and I'm so excited that it's here in Peterborough,
01:30so these are local young people accessing these skills here who would struggle within
01:36a mainstream setting and so it's been delivered close to their homes, that's really important.
