00:00 A spades in the ground ceremony has marked the start of work to build an exciting £13.5 million centre for green technology on the campus of Peterborough College.
00:09 The three-storey centre should be completed later next year and will seek to equip students with the work skills of the future as the city looks to attract in a greater range of high wage paying companies.
00:20 The centre is one of eight projects that have been partially funded through the Government's Towns Fund initiative.
00:26 Yeah this is hugely significant, we're really proud to host a ground breaking event today at Peterborough College as part of Inspire Education Group.
00:34 This is a really ambitious £13.5 million project build to build a centre for green technology, teaching, training, educating people of the future around modern methods of construction, retrofit, electric vehicle technology
00:48 and really helping provide employers with the skilled workforce that they need of the future.
00:54 This is partly funded by the Towns Fund which we're really thankful for, for the support that we've got from the Towns Fund, from the combined authority, through the Transforming Cities Fund
01:05 and that's helped us bring this project to life as well as our own investment as a group that has contributed significantly to the project getting off the ground.
01:15 We've got all funding in place to deliver this project but we are an FE college that requires and needs more investment.
01:23 We've got a fantastic campus here in Peterborough but we want to make it even better for our students and for the communities that we serve and the employers that we serve.
01:34 We need more investment, we've got an ageing estate and we know that we are developing a master plan for the whole of the campus
01:41 so that over the next decade we transform Peterborough College to ensure that we provide the skilled workforce that employers need.
01:50 So look, this project could be transformative for this college and for young people in my city.
01:57 It's the first of the Towns Fund money that we secured from central government.
02:02 £23 million will be generated by City Centre and for projects like this. This is for the young people of our city and their potential is what counts.
02:12 And we're doing it.
