00:00From housing to food, President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr. is pushing for higher funding
00:04for the education sector after the Department of Education highlighted the effects of budget
00:09cuts in 2025, which could potentially worsen the teacher shortage in the country.
00:14During a meeting with DepEd officials, the chief executive criticized the budget gap
00:18for the agency projects. He emphasized the education sector deserves increased funding.
00:23DepEd received only 737 billion pesos of its 748 billion pesos budget proposal.
00:28Funds for hiring of additional school personnel, the basic education facilities fund,
00:33and the DepEd computerization program were reduced. Furthermore, the construction of
00:37new schools and delivering modern technology, such as laptops and smart TVs, will be significantly
00:42impacted. Meanwhile, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, or TESDA,
00:47is exploring alternative funding sources for its programs, such as the establishment of
00:52an enterprise-based training office and a new regional office for the Negros Island region.
